Office Selection for MBB Recruiting
Hi,
I'd love to hear some advice from folks familiar with MBB's recruiting processes. I'm currently at a target school on the west coast with a history of sending undergrads to SF MBB offices (particularly Bain). I'm not sure whether this is due to cross-coast recruiting disadvantages or many students' desire to stay on the west coast. After spending the summer in NYC, I'm fairly certain that it's the city I'd prefer to live in post-grad, but I'm concerned that my candidacy won't be as competitive for NYC offices as it would be in SF. Does anyone know if there are material disadvantages to recruiting from a west coast target in NYC, or is it negligible?
Thanks in advance
Offices like San Francisco, New York, and Chicago are thought to be the top ones. As a result, they have the most demand and tend to be the most competitive. However, because of this demand these are also three of the biggest offices for each of MBB.
If your school is a target, you should be fine getting an interview at any of them if you meet the criteria. They have consistent standards at that level of office competitiveness, so I would suggest you apply where you would like to actually live.
Yeah this is right. The only way you can game it is to go to a less popular city for your internship and then try to flip for full time. You also can do the less popular city for a year then try and transfer once you’re in the firm.
