Please recommend good training for petroleum trading...

Hi all,

I am seriously and sincerely looking for good (online/offline) training programs/classes/coaches for petroleum trading and the petroleum industry (refineries, pipelines, products, etc.)

Could you please give me some pointers?

I really appreciate that.

Thank you!

I looked into BP IST - it's super interesting...

But how can I get into that program?

I am currently designing systematic global macro strategies for a prop-shop... (trading commodities and FX) and I would like to be more specialized in energy trading...

Any advice about how to move into programs such as BP IST?

Really appreciate your help!

Thanks a lot!

What is your full background?

Checking out which of the Majors have oil trading programs and what their requirements are is probably a good start.

BP's IST program takes people from a bunch of sources. Undergrad recruiting, their intern program, their engineers, and people from other energy trading firms so that should be an option.

This may be too basic for you, but I thought Oil 101 is a pretty good read.

The user Monty09 on this forum could probably provide some decent advice.

I am a quant PhD and obtained my Econ/Finance/Stats from a good school a few years ago.

I am currently designing quant/systematic strategies, trading commodities futures and FX at a prop shop.

Although I trade lots of commodities futures products and FX, but I specialize in none physical.

I have always been interested in being a bit more specialized in energy trading, combining physical and financial. Hopefully that will help improve my trading edge one level up. I am thinking of applying to a firm which specializes in energy trading. Which ones are good energy trading shops? Do I just find their "Career" webpage and apply to them? Could anybody please list some recruiters who are specialized in physical/financial energy trading?

After reading Oil 101, will I be able to get into energy trading? I currently know a bunch of terminologies and read some energy newsletters at a shallow level, not as deep as refinery, pipelines, etc. Essentially I am looking for "Essential petroleum trading knowledge for traders"...

Thank you!
