Prospective transfer to Cornell
I've just finished my first semester at a major Florida school (UF/FSU/UCF) with a 3.90 and just admitted to my school's honors program. I intend on leaving the sunshine the baddies and the y-bombs for better academic prospects up north. I've been told Cornell is the most transfer friendly ivy, so I am starting there. From going through their transfer requirements, it seems I have not taken the classes at my current school to be able to transfer straight to SC Johnson business school on Commonapp. I have not taken Calc 1 as stated on their page. Should I try to transfer to a different college at Cornell and then take the required classes? Or apply straight to the business school anyway?
SC Johnson is extremely competitive — wouldn’t advise applying directly to the business school without calc.
Go for Econ major.
Commonapp has a required section asking which school i'd like to apply for, and it isnt major-specific, it's school specific. So SC Johnson is the only choice it seems. And the Econ Major is within SC Johnson if I am not mistaken. Is there any way to apply for a specific major? Maybe I should try something other than commonapp.
I went to Cornell and know a ton of transfers, which make up a way bigger % of the student body than I thought prior to attending. The reason transferring is easier is because of the affiliation to New York state with the public undergraduate colleges. If you look at the stats, in-state students have a significantly higher acceptance rate for transfers than OOS. The OOS is still slightly higher than other ivies, but much more in line with other lower ivies
I assume you are from Florida, so I’d highly recommend applying to transfer to one of the private colleges for the best odds

If you want to get into the SC Johnson school, you're gonna have to do it in your initial transfer application. I'm pretty sure if you're an external transfer you're not even allowed to apply to Dyson (the undergrad business school). It's super competitive to get into so even with a 3.9 and being in your school's honor program

No, last I recall you’re not able to internally transfer to Dyson if you externally transferred into Cornell
Can you take calc 1 in a January term online at some random school and transfer it in? Or just take it next semester, looks like you can apply with those classes in progress.
You won't be accepted if you don't meet the requirements, and don't think you can get into a different school and then also transfer internally. Also I'd just do all of your transfer applications at once, Cornell is for sure a good start but right now is your best timing to transfer without taking an extra semester or even year.
I am really not opposed to switching out my classes just to have a shot at applying, so if it comes down to it I will. But then i'm stuck taking these classes if I get rejected in May. Maybe I should just make sure that my application is the best that it can be lmao.

This guy is a loser who clearly didn’t have friends. There are >20,000 students at Cornell you can have as much as/more fun than at any other school at cornell. Obviously weather isn’t ideal but that’s the same for most northeastern universities.
I get where you're coming from, but I think my prospects at my florida school are not as nearly as good as they could be at Cornell for front-office IB. Or would you disagree with that? Should i just network my ass off at my current school?
If you go to FSU or UCF then transfer to UF. If you are at UF stay at UF. Its a top 25 ranked school nationally and you will save so much money from in state tuition. If you get around to junior/senior year and feel like you still aren’t getting looks because of your school, then use those tuition savings to plan for a masters degree from a better school directly after graduating.
This was my path and it worked out great! Stayed in state, got good grades and decent internships, had extra money for study for 2 study abroads, and then went ham on the gmat senior year to get into a top masters program.
Cornell is a fucking shitshow with covid right now. They are taking it probably the most strict of just about any school. Mandatory vaccination, mandatory booster, everyone masked, daily covid testing and hardcore strict protocols for it. Not to mention that Ithaca is a raging piece of shit town full of boomers and methheads, it's pure Rust Belt decay and the weather in Upstate is some of the worst in the entire country
Going to Cornell isn't bad normally, but going to Cornell right now would legitimately feel like wasting your 20s. Covid is never going away and Cornell will always be at the forefront of the stupidity when it comes to restrictions and forcing you to do what they want.
