Recruiting across LA PE firms

How easy is it to recruit across from one established LA PE firm to another (from analyst/ASO to ASO)? I've heard that there are some recruiting limitations because some of the partners at these firms are friends/close. Is this true? If so, which firms does this recruiting embargo apply to? Ex: would it be possible to go from Ares to LGP/Oaktree/Clearlake?

I've seen people lateral from LA UMM PE to NY MF. So I know its possible to go up in terms of fund, but I don't know about partners being friends and whatnot. That definitely seems like a possibility.
