Rescinding SA/FT Offers Based on Rumors
If a bank hears a rumor about an incoming hire (from someone outside of the company contacting them) would they consider rescinding an offer? Or would they only do this for circumstances like criminal charges?
Depends on what the rumor is and what actually happened man.
this is way too vague to help you in any way

No, people don't lose jobs over rumors (unless you're talking about something serious like a university's disciplinary action ie. they committed assault/cheated/hate-crime, etc).
If you're the one with the offer, don't be paranoid of rumors unless you committed a crime. HR for big banks are most concerned with getting sued- so, they're not going to rescind your offer based on unsubstantiated rumors from an outsider. They're professionals. They call the references that you've provided and otherwise talk to their own trusted connections if they have any insight into you.
Firms don't just let randos off the street speak into their hiring process.
If your not the one with the offer, and you are purely an outsider with no connections/history/previous experience at the firm, spreading rumors is a career- suicide move for yourself, which should be self-evident.
