Resume critique for a junior looking to get into M&A
Hey guys, first time posting a thread here, learned a ton reading the forums for ~2 years…I'd appreciate if you could check out my resume to see what changes or improvements I could make. I'm planning to get my CPA and get into M&A banking after graduation. Thanks guys!
Change that font asap, it's blinding my eyes. Education on top
Aaah, that font hurts so much
How did you backpack in Eastern Europe for a year? Did you take a year off school? (I didn't look at anything else)
That's funny, you reminded me of a time years ago, when I was backpacking across western Europe. I was just outside Barcelona, hiking in the foothills of mount Tibidabo. I was at the end of this path, and I came to a clearing, and there was a lake, very secluded, and there were tall trees all around. It was dead silent. Gorgeous. And across the lake I saw, a beautiful woman, bathing herself. She was crying...
Not sure how this relates but alright.
Move your education to the top, take your SAT off (it's not good enough), please change the font.
Why are you getting a CPA? It's not relevant to M&A.
i'll change up the font then... i finished middle school early and did an exchange program when i was 13. any more feedback will be appreciated!
-Change from paragraph form to bullet form. The large paragraphs make it hard to read. -Chang to a "smaller" sans-serif font -Sentence structure consistency (e.g. "Built models including" not "Models built include" -Decrease the bullet margins in the FP&A section - the huge gaps look funny -"Performed independent contractor work FOR a venture-backed..." -Use a better action word than "took responsibility" -Cut down slightly on the detail, leaving only action and result - e.g. under the Modell's section the recruiter will get lost reading about glass and aluminum. Change to something like "Performed analysis using X method to make X project more cost effective, contributing to winning bid for $100 million"
As a CPA, I will say that the credential certainly doesn't hurt, but it is better suited to a Big 4 or corporate finance type of role. For your stated goals, there are probably better uses for your time and money (Series 7, etc.)
PM me if you want a second look after these changes.
Font kills. You doing 2 internships at the SAME TIME IN BOTH NYC AND NJ? ...trolling over 9000 bish.
i'm pretty sure these fancy serif fonts would look alot better on paper than they do online, but I have since updated the resume which I will post in a bit. haha sonny I wish I were trolling, but yeah I put in about 30 hrs a week at each place so its not full time, that would be pretty much impossible
Instead of using taught, say snowboarding instructor (2 years) and same for tennis.
Let me get this straight, you spent a summer doing PE (for 30 hours a week) and only have two bullet points to show for it?
well i haven't finished adding stuff yet. what do you suggest i should add to make it more complete?
consider investing in professional advice... You're doing the right thing by asking around
haha bfin you are right but m56 I enjoyed reading that it was quite poetic. as far as updates go, after revisions I've had good feedback from PNC middle market along with the big 4 (pwc and deloitte). I'm going to a recruiting event in maryland next week..should be some good firms there so I'll hand out some more resumes there and see how it goes.
It's a Friends reference:
Kruzon, that's pretty good! Aim for the Big 4; probably more opportunities than at a middle market.
Thanks for the tip...the event went pretty well. Set up 2 informationals this week actually. I had a PwC Manager look at my resume and other than some minor corrections & GPA, she gave nothing but positive feedback. Even gave me some tips for the interview as well. Got another informational with a Prudential auditor so I'll continue to hit the pavement and hopefully snag a summer offer.
