Sagent Advisors - Comparison vs lower BBs or MMs
I know they are active mostly in M&A but haven't heard their name much despite strong dealflow. How do they compare versus lower BBs or MMs like Houlihan Lokey?

How the hell are you supposed to apply to these guys? They have some BS onewire recruiting page where your supposed to sign up and that's it.
They recruit on campus...(resume drop through OCD).
Well, they came to my school and recruited on campus, but then, never replied ANYBODY for an interview...
@ U Michi - Ross??
I have a friend who got an offer from Sagent for this summer...good kid (GPA 4.0 and national merit scholarship finalist)
At a west coast undergrad b-school (Haas, Marshall, etc)
They generally recruit on campus.
There pretty solid. Do you have any other offers to compare it to?
what campuses do firms like these actually recruit on? we're talking b schools right? i dont know of many MMs that recruit undergrad
I got to a top 20 UG B school and we have them come on campus in addition to a variety of MM firms.

Sagent is a good shop, just one notch below the elite boutiques such as BX/Greenhill/Gridley & Co
They recruited at Tulane this year. I made it to the final rounds for SA but got an offer elsewhere and took it, and thus cancelled the superday. Smart guys though.
Lol Sirbakealot why do you keep mentioning Gridley is this some sort of joke?
Sagent has yet to prove itself. Not a great shop yet.
boutiquebank4life has yet to prove himself. Not a great poster yet.
he's right though, this place sucks.
sagent recruits from ucla, ucb, byu, and i think usc for OCR on the westcoast and i believe the usual prospects( whaton, harvard, etc) for NY office.
they recruit from indiana as well. they used to list their analysts on their website.
I wonder why they took it down? too many analysts?
probably, the analyst class was expanding..and i think they have around 7 more this year combined
I agree that Sagent is a notch below elite boutiques and even good MM places (Houlihan, Centerview, Gleacher, etc). To boutiquebank4life 's point, I haven't heard of any deals they've closed this year besides Cheniere (mkt cap 250mm) even though the M&A market has picked up substantially.
Also- one of the founders there retired in '09. Maybe a reason why deal flow has slowed down? Seems like they've been hiring a bunch of MD's and launching new offices this year so not really sure..
i wouldn't put centerview in the "MM" category with HLHZ/gleacher... although they don't have a catchy jewish last name as the firm's name, they're pretty badass.
very sharp folks from what I've seen, tremendous respect
Does anyone know how bonuses at a place like sagent would compare to other boutiques / MM shops? Anyone have numbers from last year?
it's street/a bit above street
Sagent advised Stanley, Inc. last week on its sale to CGI (Federal) Group

How are sagent exit opps and pay compared to firms like Robert Baird or Lincoln international?
Prob not as good as baird. No idea on lincoln
i spoke with a couple guys from there...NYC office. I think one is going to TPG ( not sure if it's growth equity or the buyout fund) and some other going to corp dev, some stay on after two years and some going to MM PEs. Definitely nice and solid guys and from the conversation, they seem to get paid pretty well and get involved on a lot deals in the MM space
Mods say u work there lol
Great place to work at and great exit ops. 60% of the MDs are ex-DLJ guys, so they know the right people on a buy-side.
i can confirm that they sent a girl recently to tpg's sf office.
Can a first year analyst expect to make 100K in their first year at Sagent?
Bumping this old thread. Hoping to get some thoughts on Sagent.
