Anyone here actually saves up his money builds either a portfolio for public markets, Real estate or buys a small business 500k-5 million$ as a side hustle to make money? I don't really understand how some people who work in finance do something like personal branding as a side hustle and not use the skills they have acquired from their jobs to make investments in hopes to get a good rate of return or as a way to get personal experience? I wanna have my own PE fund some day and I feel that if you're a VP at a fund or even associate you should attempt to try to get your hands dirty on the side to learn. Thoughts?

I think being able to run a couple small businesses and a real estate portfolio on the side should be a good start? And go from there and try to build a good relationship with HNW and LP's.
