"As a prospect pursuing a career in Leveraged Finance, how do you personally see a long term career in LevFin, given your extensive background in the industry?"
Trust me - they will go on and on and on and on when you ask that. You can expect them (especially those at the senior level) to say things like "well... risky and downgraded companies are always going to have a need for this space to raise capital... blah blah blah blah." Try preparing more questions for them when they DEFINITELY say this... they fucking will. Trust me.
I ask a lot more behavioral questions and those that force them to reminisce on their background. People like to think about how they made it to the top and "what's next" for them. I've found it 100% more effective than asking super technical or financy questions - they probably don't care about.
