Sophomore/Junior PE megafund internships??
I've been perusing LinkedIn and have been seeing that some kids (mostly Harvard/Yale and the like) are getting internships at Apollo Global Management or Blackstone as summer analysts. Wow. Do these firms recruit at the schools for soph/junior interns or are these internships a result of networking?
Networking with alumni BUT the people I know who interned at those places were top students and certainly deserved the job. Friend of mine who did his SA at BX had to go through 11 interviews so it's definitely not a cakewalk.
I'm rather sure that these firms come to HYP to recruit for summer analyst positions. I've seen job postings for both firms on my school's career page but all the analyst positions had a 3.8 GPA cutoff.
Keep in mind many times the firms say beforehand you definitely won't get an offer; it's just for the experience. They generally focus on these schools, not just networking, and 90% the people that get them are top notch.
Hence many. :P But anyway, yes BX does but APO does not.
Are merchant banking internships just as hard to get as regular straight PE firm ones?
