Sophomore/Junior PE megafund internships??

I've been perusing LinkedIn and have been seeing that some kids (mostly Harvard/Yale and the like) are getting internships at Apollo Global Management or Blackstone as summer analysts. Wow. Do these firms recruit at the schools for soph/junior interns or are these internships a result of networking?

DeterminedI'm rather sure that these firms come to HYP to recruit for summer analyst positions. I've seen job postings for both firms on my school's career page but all the analyst positions had a 3.8 GPA cutoff.
And all the people I know who got them had at least 3.8s. And a bunch of them had FO BB internships beforehand and started a bunch of clubs, and won all sorts of awards... BX PE has 3 SAs this year so it's tough.

NabooruKeep in mind many times the firms say beforehand you definitely won't get an offer; it's just for the experience. They generally focus on these schools, not just networking, and 90% the people that get them are top notch.
Not true for all firms. BX consistently extends FT offers and apparently they've never had a SA turn them down but I know someone who's about to tarnish their record...

Hence many. :P But anyway, yes BX does but APO does not.
