Sorry, you're all wrong about SMU.

There was a recent thread about underrated colleges, with SMU being the most contentious one. The main argument was that SMU's Alts program doesn't place well when compared to other schools. I was kinda in the same boat; when compared to Rice or UT, SMU doesn't seem like anything hot, but then I came across the placement stats in recent years and thought I'd share. People still have a better chance going to UT, but if you don't get accepted SMU doesn't seem like a bad choice (as long as you can get into Alts).

If I'm reading this right, SMU is definitely nothing less than semi-target, and I would argue that its target.

(Sorry if there is a sign-up wall, it's not paid)

Not even, I looked at the SMU Alts website and counted 6 for 2019, 8 for 2018, and 6 for 2017. So, it 's more like 10-15% to NY for the people who get into Alts....thus non-target for Wall St and a lot of state schools that place much better

Holy shit, I'm paying less for all 4 years at a better school, and I don't even get financial aid

lmao at anyone trying to do buyside recruiting with smu on their resume

Porters6thForce:
These numbers are definitely skewed by the number of rich, well-connected hot chicks that go there and get placed. Which we can safely assume you're not one, given the nature of this post

You'd be lucky to end up in Equities in Dallas from there. But hey, thx for sharing.

I laughed, even though the post is inaccurate

So, if what you say is true with it being spoiled rich kids, we may have figured out why they “do well” in IB placement. It would be the kids who have connections and parents in the industry who get in, but anyone else is pretty much screwed

SMU is semi-target for Equities in Dallas.

Placement stats are never to be trusted. If you trust them you end up being like that guy on the underrated colleges thread who was trying to convince us that U. Cincy is the back door to Wall Street.

Dallas as a whole is good for a laugh, SMU is part of the reason why this is so. The city is full of people who think they are important, but in reality are low functioning and unsophisticated. And they never shut the fuck up about Jerry Jones or Highland Park...both have to be mentioned as often as possible

I'm not from Dallas but worked there for a few years and not many people mention Jerry Jones... they are annoying Cowboys fans tho. But why does that matter? Low functioning and unsophisticated? You might just be as much of a prick as Dallas ppl are stereotyped to be

You seem to have a weird cohort of friends if all they do is mention Highland Park, which is a tiny suburb of Dallas.

The fact of the matter is Dallas is probably the strongest job market in the country right now, bar none. Do with that what you will.

p.s. fuck the Cowboys
