Stanford GSB or Reapplying to HBS
Hello,
Out of school, I got accepted to GSB but not HBS 2+2 Program.
I am extremely happy with GSB but I am planning to work in Europe after my mba and was wondering how strong is the network there or how GSB is considered.
Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Stanford.
Congratulations on the admit. I see no reason to reapply, you were admitted to the best of the best.

you've made it. Relax and enjoy
youre at the top of the top. have never met an HBS candidate who got into GSB and actively chose HBS instead, only met people in the opposite situation (GSB candidates who actively rejected HBS).
I can see your concern about the Stanford reputation in Europe and around the world, as Harvard does have a larger and more entrenched alumni base. But, having gone to HBS and worked at the GSB, you should be very pleased with yourself. Congratulations.
My sincere guess is that you will be fine if you reapply to HBS in a year or two if you still want to do the switch. I'd give you very good odds that you'd be a successful admit, especially if you let the HBS folks know that you already have an offer from Stanford. They are a very jealous girlfriend (or boyfriend, whichever way you want to look at it).
Thanks a lot for your detailed answer Betsy!
My pleasure. Keep us all posted -- we all want to hear success stories like yours!
Was in the same situation as you (admitted to the GSB, dinged off waitlist at HBS), albeit a couple of years after undergrad. Going to the GSB was the best decision I've made (huzzah for drinking the Kool-Aid). Also conducting an int'l job search (though focused on a different region). Don't underestimate how hard that process is no matter where you are. It requires a great deal of focus and initiative and is a relatively uncommon path at both schools.
Happy to discuss at more depth over PM.
Congrats! Out of curiosity, what kind of experience/background do you have?
Thanks! Will PM you
go with stanford.
trollololol?
You got into the better of the two. Congratulations. The better weather is just a bonus on top of the superior academics 1 and exclusivity 2. ;)
1 No hipster-esque overuse of case studies. 2 Far fewer admitted each year.
Marche is the expert on this stuff.
You can't dispute his logic either. Look at the use of a conclusion followed by 2-3 bullet points to back up his thesis.
I agree! The bracket around the numbers was the clincher.
1 and 2 were meant to be footnotes, but now that I think about it, I should've gone with 3 bullet points followed by a restatement of the thesis. It's more consultant-like.
Lol, Stanford's reputation is huge in Europe FYI. It's true that the average man in the streets here won't know Stanford where they would definitely know Harvard but that shouldn't bother you since all serious employers will know how insanely prestigious Stanford is.
