Submitting online to GS
Hi,
I am submitting my resume to Goldman Sachs tonight for their recently posted "Summer 2012 Veterans Internship."
Can anyone provide me with information on what the details of this internship might be, what areas will interns work in, what level of responsibility, etc?
Also, all the GS hiring website prompts me to do is upload and submit my resume. Should I upload a 2 page document, one being the cover letter followed by my resume? Or do you think just a resume will do?
Also, seems like most agree that an objective statement should be left out. Disagree? What about references?
Thank you
I think it might be a little late? Superdays are in a week or so.
I believe this is a separate deal going on, I think the internship posting first appeared last Friday.
Online resume submission = huge waste of time.
Maybe not a total waste, a veteran program could narrow down the applicants by quite a bit.
Regarding your questions about the program, does it not have a job description? That's probably the best hint you're going to get as to the nature of the work.
I recommend uploading a resume/cover letter in a 2-page PDF, and be sure to touch on the key terms in the job description to help you make it past the word filters. No need for references, as I've seen in my limited experience, nobody will check them until after they interview you anyways and even then it's unlikely.
ok thanks. I went to actually submit the resume and it had a section below it for "Cover Letters / something else" and indicated "if requested", so I just submitted my resume stand-alone.
The job description is simply "explore career options in finance" and "to help transitioning military veterans". Full time, 8 weeks, paid, NYC. Ill just see what happens if I get a call or email.
Thanks.
I also recently submitted my resume for the Veterans Internship Program. Good luck! I hope we can keep each other posted if we receive any contact from GS.
I did not upload it as a PDF file. I uploaded it as a docx file. Did you do the same?
any news for you?
I applied for this internship too. The deadline was on the 17th and they said they would let people know next week. The description is really vague. Does anyone know any more information that wasn't on the listing?
there was a section after you submitted your application that you could add additional documents, that is where i threw in my cover letter.
also did anyone hear back?
GS hasn't contacted me yet. Hey amarezzah. how do you know that they will start letting people know next week?
apparently someone had a phone interview for it last week? I haven't heard anything myself.
haven't heard anything back either....wonder what the turn around time is.
for the person that you said had a phone interview...do you know when they applied or no idea? where did you hear that from?
I asked a recruiter yesterday and she replied: We will come back to you by the end of next week around interest to move forward.
I saw on the other post that someone got a phone interview as well.
Any idea how many interns they are selecting? Is the interview process the same as the other internships?
Nobody knows but I assume that the interview process would be the same as other internships. the only difference is that the requirement to apply is to be a veteran.
any good news from anyone here? the waiting game sucks lol. The internship starts from April - June.
Haven't heard anything... ahhh! driving me crazy!! :)
Blahwoop--How did you find out about the dates? Those aren't typical dates for an internship, are they?
i thought it was just an 8 week internship...wasn't aware it started in april...weird time to start especially if you are still in school
how did you find out those dates?
It is from April 9th - June 1st. My friend works at GS and he forward the information about the internship to me. No news for today. It looks like regular Summer Analyst are having super days this week. I assume that they will start with us after they fill those positions. Just a wild guess.
The job requirement stated bachelor's degree, which explains why there'd be a start date in April.
the job states a bachelor's degree yes, and can explain why the start date could be in april, but not why it actually it.
I am doing a masters program though which is why it came as a surprise to me as I won't be out of school until may.
Yeah and they do their FT hiring in the Summer and Winter. So it might be perfect for some FT offers after the internship.
anyone have any updates?
None from me :/
Nothing! Are we doomed? I'd be happy if someone here got a response so I don't have to keep waiting.
heard nothing on my end.
what does your status of your application say?
mine says review.
click on my account when logged into GS careers website....will say there
Mine only says Applied. Goodluck bro!
same to you
not really sure, my password stopped working. I had this issue before, where my password only worked on my laptop and not my desktop. Now it doesnt work on either and I sent a password reset this morning but havent received anything in the inbox yet.
Did anyone have a phone interview?
no phone interview or contact yet for me
I just had a phone interview. It sounds like they will be doing them all week.
good luck to you
also sent you a PM
had a phone interview also. don't know if i did well or not.
good luck...still waiting to hear back myself
I got an email today telling me that they could not extend an interview for me. GOT REJECTED!
Goodluck to everyone else.
sorry to hear that...good luck to you
i still haven't got a phone call or email...
so I guess this is a "no news is good news" spot, for the time being?
sorry blahwoop and congrats to the others.
rejected via email circa noon
would a "thank you anyways" to the rejection letter be in line, or out of order?
I think you should reply thanks anyway and ask if they could provide you with any feedback as to what skills/experience you should have, or what would make you a better candidate for next time, etc
We appreciate your interest in the Goldman Sachs Veterans Internship Program. Unfortunately, we are faced with a limited number of openings for an incredibly competitive group of candidates and will not be able to extend you an invitation for an interview. These decisions are always difficult, and we regret that we cannot always accommodate everyone.
We wish you the best of luck in the future. We will happily keep you in mind for future opportunities.
just got the same email
LOL i guess no one here got an interview for the internship.. that is pretty rough. I'd like to see what type of people got an interview.
I was hoping to at least get an interview lol.
you at least got a phone interview? I didn't even get that lol
True. I'll take that. Sorry dude!
no need to be sorry :p
Hey guys! I was able to get some feedback. There were over 350 applicants. 3 Veterans within the firm looked through all of them and then chose about 100 to interview and at the end there will only be 10 hires! I asked what they looked for when looking at the resumes and he said they mostly looked for red flags, like anything that they know wouldn't have made sense from being in the military. ALSO, they said you guys HAVE to be more aggressive! They want you to reach out, email them, call, etc. Can't stress that enough!!!! Hope this information helps!

there was noone to call or reach out to except people within the company that have nothing to do with veteran internship program.....thats a bit confusing.

hope your interview today goes well for you...let us know how it goes!
