Submitting online to GS

Hi,

I am submitting my resume to Goldman Sachs tonight for their recently posted "Summer 2012 Veterans Internship."

Can anyone provide me with information on what the details of this internship might be, what areas will interns work in, what level of responsibility, etc?

Also, all the GS hiring website prompts me to do is upload and submit my resume. Should I upload a 2 page document, one being the cover letter followed by my resume? Or do you think just a resume will do?

Also, seems like most agree that an objective statement should be left out. Disagree? What about references?

Thank you

Maybe not a total waste, a veteran program could narrow down the applicants by quite a bit.

Regarding your questions about the program, does it not have a job description? That's probably the best hint you're going to get as to the nature of the work.

I recommend uploading a resume/cover letter in a 2-page PDF, and be sure to touch on the key terms in the job description to help you make it past the word filters. No need for references, as I've seen in my limited experience, nobody will check them until after they interview you anyways and even then it's unlikely.

Nothing short of everything will really do.

ok thanks. I went to actually submit the resume and it had a section below it for "Cover Letters / something else" and indicated "if requested", so I just submitted my resume stand-alone.

The job description is simply "explore career options in finance" and "to help transitioning military veterans". Full time, 8 weeks, paid, NYC. Ill just see what happens if I get a call or email.

Thanks.

I also recently submitted my resume for the Veterans Internship Program. Good luck! I hope we can keep each other posted if we receive any contact from GS.

I did not upload it as a PDF file. I uploaded it as a docx file. Did you do the same?

any news for you?

I applied for this internship too. The deadline was on the 17th and they said they would let people know next week. The description is really vague. Does anyone know any more information that wasn't on the listing?

I asked a recruiter yesterday and she replied: We will come back to you by the end of next week around interest to move forward.

I saw on the other post that someone got a phone interview as well.
Any idea how many interns they are selecting? Is the interview process the same as the other internships?

The job requirement stated bachelor's degree, which explains why there'd be a start date in April.

the job states a bachelor's degree yes, and can explain why the start date could be in april, but not why it actually it.

I am doing a masters program though which is why it came as a surprise to me as I won't be out of school until may.

not really sure, my password stopped working. I had this issue before, where my password only worked on my laptop and not my desktop. Now it doesnt work on either and I sent a password reset this morning but havent received anything in the inbox yet.

I think you should reply thanks anyway and ask if they could provide you with any feedback as to what skills/experience you should have, or what would make you a better candidate for next time, etc

We appreciate your interest in the Goldman Sachs Veterans Internship Program. Unfortunately, we are faced with a limited number of openings for an incredibly competitive group of candidates and will not be able to extend you an invitation for an interview. These decisions are always difficult, and we regret that we cannot always accommodate everyone.

We wish you the best of luck in the future. We will happily keep you in mind for future opportunities.

just got the same email

LOL i guess no one here got an interview for the internship.. that is pretty rough. I'd like to see what type of people got an interview.

I was hoping to at least get an interview lol.

Hey guys! I was able to get some feedback. There were over 350 applicants. 3 Veterans within the firm looked through all of them and then chose about 100 to interview and at the end there will only be 10 hires! I asked what they looked for when looking at the resumes and he said they mostly looked for red flags, like anything that they know wouldn't have made sense from being in the military. ALSO, they said you guys HAVE to be more aggressive! They want you to reach out, email them, call, etc. Can't stress that enough!!!! Hope this information helps!
