So Im getting ready to choose which college I want to attend, and its between 3 Ivies and 2 business schools. The ivies are non-HYPW (think Dartmouth/Cornell/Columbia/Brown) and the business programs are Stern and U-Mich Ross. I've visited most of the campuses and am leaning towards the ivies, but I want your advice. I want to do i-banking and maybe PE/HF down the line, will choosing one school over the others give me a significant advantage/disadvantage down the line? How about for recruiting? Is it true that most of it is up to me and what I do in college? Will KKR or Morgan Stanley never hire me because I went to lowly Cornell instead of Dartmouth? What are my odds of working at the Goldman Sachs?
Troll.
Mods, you know what to do.
Thanks for your wonderful insight. Now can anyone honestly answer my question?
If I were you, I'd rather be a troll, because your grammar and general knowledge is shockingly shitty for someone about to attend an Ivy.
So I take it your vote is for an ivy and not UMich/NYU?
Can I get a legitimate response, jesus fuck. Here's what I figure are the pros/cons of each:
Dartmouth:
Pros: - Hot chicks - Nice Campus - Lots to do outdoors - Filled with bros - nice atmosphere
Cons: - Middle of nowhere - Middle of nowhere - like 800 hours from anywhere
Columbia:
Pros: - NYC - Core Curriculum - Banks are a subway ride away. Maybe I can get an investment banking internship at Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley during my sophomore year if i get all As! - Sick social scene and kids are really tight
Cons: - Not a real campus - Im Republican - Shitty food - Have to go down to NYU to pick up chicks
Cornell:
Pros: - Its technically an ivy - decent campus - Its got a great computer science program
Cons: - Middle of nowhere - Not REALLY an ivy - Its pretty cold. Legit its terrible.
Stern:
Pros: - NYC - Finance education - Hottest dames around (in other schools) - Nightlife
Cons: - no diversity - literally no campus - everyone is gunning for IB - Hipster OWS is NYU's greatest Varsity Team
Ross:
Pros: - Awesome Greek Life - Has sports teams that are worth rooting for - 3rd best UG business program according to USNEWS (is that better than Columbia being 4th for Liberal Arts Colleges?)
Cons: - Isnt an Ivy - Located in Midwest (Far from home) - No famous alumni as far as I can tell - Shares name with most beta male character from FRIENDS
This is my subjective analysis so far. Does anyone from Wallstreet have any useful insight as to how well represented each school is in Finance??
Ivy prestige is a good thing to have for IB/PE. All good schools though.
If you got into Columbia, I'd say def go to Columbia. Then I'd say Cornell unless you wanna go for engineering/comp sci, if that's the case I'd switch those two around.
I'm gonna have to give my shoutout to Ross though. IB from any one of those schools should be attainable.
Of your list, if you want Comp Sci/Engineering (as mentioned above) definitely go to Michigan, no question.
Regardless, that is probably the one I'd choose. Easy to get to Wall St, and it gives you a normal college experience. Not necessarily Ross grads, but Larry Page, Bill Joy, Stan Druckenmiller, Sam Zell and Bruce Wasserstein are a pretty solid alumni.
None of your schools are bad options. Most people would tell you Columbia, but it just depends on whether or not you want an urban vs college town experience. I personally couldn't imagine going to college in NYC if I wasn't super rich and on my parents' dime.
By the way, your comment about hot chicks at Dartmouth does make me think this is a troll thread...that's pretty funny.
DO NOT go to Brown...
Cornell > Michigan for engineering.
^^since somebody's showing some UMich love, I might as well add that I do really like it here, it's a college town that's for sure. However, doesn't Cornell have a better comp sci department than UMich? (only basing this off of USNWR so I could be wrong)
Prestige: I'd say go to Dartmouth, but you definitely didn't visit the campus if you listed on of the pros as "hot chicks"...
Engineering: Cornell, no other reason to go there over Colombia/Dartmouth though.... well, unless you're into hotel school
Finance: Columbia is probably the best, but Dartmouth's prestige factor will help you too.
Brown: Also a fine choice, and a wonderful istitution with a lot of loose, hot, rich, hippee stoner chicks who you'll really love and excellent dining around campus... also very easy, and very easy to keep up strong grades, etc.
don't consider non-ivy's if you really did get into the above choices
^well, i guess this report agrees with you, as michigan scores a 4.3 and cornell gets a 4.2, but I still disagree just because

In engineering circles Michigan gets more respect, but I'm not sure the OP even cares about engineering.
rankings can s my d... I get why you disagree though, Cornell's got more prestige than Michigan, at least in the IB/PE circles, apparently
Still.... Go Blue!
FYI, Ross gets literally ALL banks (all BB's recruit there, all elite boutiques (Blackstone/Moelis/Greenhill/Evercore/Lazard/etc.), almost all MM's (Jefferies/Piper/Lincoln/Blair/Baird/Macquarie/HLHZ/Lazard MM/etc.), lots of smaller boutiques too) so I highly doubt Michigan will hurt you in any way if you want to go there.
All good choices, I wouldn't worry so much, just choose a school you think you will enjoy (as it is the "best 4 years of your life"). Personally I'd choose Columbia if you want to choose an Ivy and Michigan if you value your social life a lot.
Thanks for the input guys,
would you say any of these have similar representation as HYPS on the Street? I think Im deciding between Dartmouth and Columbia, but i hear the former has a better network but for some reason everyone says Columbia for finance.
Im really hungry ill go grab a bite to eat quick and be back
If you're going for best rep on the street for IBD, I'd go Columbia. I don't think they're as well represented as HYP though, probably close??? I dunno about Stanford considering it's on the West Coast.
again... Go Blue.
All of these are solid targets, meaning that all banks recruit there. So if you network, get finance-related internships, etc, you can absolutely get a job at a BB.
Which means you should choose your school based on other shit, like location, girls, whatever. WSO can't help you with that. Just visit
