TOP European MBA with a "semi-target" Resume

Hi monkeys,

I am starting my researchs in order to start a TOP MBA program in Sept 2019. I know, is quite early but I have an average resume right now so I want to improve it as better/fast as I can in this period.

I am 26, Italian, with a BSc in Economics (Italy) and a MSc Finance (London), both from semi-target. GPA: 3,4 - GMAT 700 - CFA Level II etc...

Experiences: 6 months worked in the "Sales and Trading" division in a Boutique IB in London and 2,5 years in an Investment Management company in Milan (a top Real Estate boutique in Italy, but definitely not relevant abroad) where I am currently working as a Real Estate Associate.

From one hand I am happy and proud of my resume because I always worked hard to pay my universities etc, but from the other hand I do not see in it anything really "great" (I see it as a "semi-target" resume), so I am here to ask you some advices to improve it in order to get into a TOP MBA Program. (Think Oxford, Cambridge, Insead. Bocconi etc).

Do you thing that having already an "international" MSc could improve my chances?

Any advice is really appreciated.

Thanks

I'm by no means an expert, but I was always under the impression, that the top programs in Europe are really just LBS & INSEAD? Can you give some more color on your RE firm? Are we talking something like a Kervis or totally different?

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA

INSEAD & LBS are at the top, but Oxbridge's young b-schools are coming up. Bocconi.... is a solid brand in Europe but is probably not as known outside of that continent.

LBS and INSEAD are both really great and I am going to apply at least for INSEAD for sure. But I also think that Oxford, Cambridge, IE, IESE, Bocconi (i am italian) are excellent as well.

Yes, my company is very similar to Kervis.

It sounds a bit run off the mill, but I'd just ask some admissions consultant on here or so and see how they'd spin your story. I'm fairly sure that your pre-MBA education counts but won't be the sole determining factor if you get into a top prorgram. MBAs are often used to rebrand, too. See CompBanker threads on MBAs

Do you want to stay in RE? There are hardly any solid RE programs in Europe apart from Cambridge Real Estate Finance course, but there are plenty of good schools with solid RE programs in US.

The big 3 in Europe are INSEAD, IESE and LBS. There is an English-language bias towards LBS on this forum and you can certainly make the case that it's better than IESE, but it's closer to IESE than it is to INSEAD, which is generally regarded as the most prestigious of the traditional MBAs in Europe. What LBS has going for it is that it's quite selective on hard stats (higher GMAT than the others, for example).

To the OP: you'll be in contention for the European Top 6-7 (the big 3 plus Oxbridge, Bocconi, etc) but realistically you should still work for another year or two before joining. Try to do something in the next 12 months that adds a bit more stardust to your profile (extracurricular or professional achievement). It will boil down to quality of execution in your case.

The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.
