TOp Megafund PE Back Office in NYC trying to move into IB?
I'm currently working for a top megafund PE Backoffice. I graduated in 2018 and I only seem to land compliance roles. I left my previous compliance role because I hated it and it's not for me but I end up with this job as I needed income to support myself and I can't afford being unemployed for a long time so I ended up with compliance again.
The Idea to move to other teams within the firms is nearly impossible unless I go to harvard or its sisters.
I have a finance degree from a state school. Can someone direct me into the right direction, how can I get into IB from my current position. What jobs would get me as close as possible to IB?
??
keep working then go for an mba
I'm not planning for an MBA and taking on debt for now. I just wanna do something that would bring me as close as possible to IB and I can acquire the skills needed
I know you probably don’t want to hear it but an MBA is exactly what you need.
Everyone telling me the exact same thing and that I can get into a top MBA school having my this role. It's just the idea of taking on over 100K debt not so desirable for me and start studying all over again. There must be a better route
No there is not a better a route. If you want to dig through this entire website and find the 3 stories of guys who successfully made it from BO/MO MF PE to FO then go for it.
I would advise that 100k and two years is nothing if you are going to triple your all in comp. Also if you drag that curve out 10 years your comp is likely 10x that of your former BO role, not kidding.
The real question is how bad do you want it? Because there are tons of people at KKR, TPG, Carlyle, that will sacrifice two years and 100k to make the jump without hesitating. Also they are probably studying for the GMAT every second they aren't at work and are calling students in the finance club at every T15 they plan on applying to.
-Get 3 years WE and be a leader while doing it. -Study for GMAT and get a 700+, if you are a white male 720+ to be safe -Network with current MBA students at target programs
After admission recruit hard for IB and you will 90% get IB as long as you aren't a goofball or international student, and even then its possible.
Good luck!
You're basically stuck in back office unless you get an MBA like the others said. It's basically a career reset...
To get closer to front-office just move to a smaller shop in compliance where everyone sits on the same floor.
You can try to get to MO. Look for Risk or Trade Support jobs.
any other roles you think that might bring me closer to front office?
Not off the top of my head but maybe someone else can opine
Decided to leave as there's no hope and it's awfully depressing environment there. The good news I bought the manhattan prep to take the Gmat
