Uncertain about move to NYC

Hi everyone, I currently live in a tertiary market working in credit risk for a regional commercial bank. My wife and I have been planning a move to NYC for about a year - the goal would be to expand our career opportunities and be able to do more leisure travel (it's very difficult/expensive to leave the US from where I live). I've begun networking and applying to jobs in NYC, but haven't had much success - I've chalked this up to limited effort, my current location, and my start date (we aren't willing to move for a few more months).

My current employer is aware that I'm planning to move, but they recently offered me a promotion. The promotion would have been offered regardless of the move.

The job would pay $120,000 (COL adjustment to NYC is $244,000 based on Sperling calculator) and would be on a promotion path for Director within 3 years, which would come with another raise.

I'd plan to transition into AM or RE Acquisition/Development with the move. My wife is a commercial photographer, which is much more difficult to break into in my market.

My question: if you were in my shoes, would you risk it and move or take the safe bet and take the promotion?

It sounds like you don't have a job in NYC, so maybe get one there first and then think about moving? Yeah, just take the promotion.
