Undergrad B-School Questions - Update

EDIT
I just wanted to thank the WSO community for their help and advice, I just got my acceptance letter from UVA - Mcintire! I have not heard back from the other schools but I am definitely excited to finish my undergraduate degree and pursue the career I have always wanted.

Hello,

I am trying to apply to some undergraduate B-schools and I am looking to see what people think would be a good idea for someone like me.

I went to a community college due to finances, I have a 3.8 GPA (straight A's except for a couple B's at the start), 2100 SAT (750+ in Math and Critical Reading, writing brought my average down). I've applied to schools in the past but never got in, in the meantime I started my own company and have grown it to easily support myself and pay for any further education. I want to go to business school because in all honesty the markets are what interest me in life, and not particularly what I do now.

I'm not dumb or anything, just had some hard periods in my life near the end of high school and start of college and I have been trying to set my life on the track I want it on for awhile now. This year I was going to apply to some schools that are both reputable and have a higher acceptance rate. Your guys input and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I am located in Denver, CO. I was trying to find some lists on here of some schools that may accept someone in my situation, and the major point of this post was to get those recommendations. I will be paying for school with the money I have saved now. I wanted to go into banking, everyone on here and other forums seems to say that to actually enter the field after graduation you have a much better shot coming from certain colleges, so that is what my goal has been.

Quite honestly, you should apply for Wharton. You sound like a motivated individual and I'm sure you can explain whatever extenuating circumstances on your application. Your SAT scores show that you are a formidable candidate compared to other high school graduates.

Apply for the best, come what may, at least you can say you tried.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it's the courage to continue that counts" -Winston Churchill

Does anyone else think there I may have a shot at Wharton? This would be the dream school, although I am trying to not focus too much on "dreams" atm.

All the other schools I will be researching further on Monday and get ready for this next round of applications. If anyone else has any more knowledge to share please do, I take this advice seriously and will thoroughly review each recommendation.

You said you started your company that makes money to support you and your future education. That is terrific - I think you have a good selling point in your essays. If you don't mind me asking, what is your business about?

Online retail, the internet is the greatest tool ever to new entrepreneurs. I started with $400 of my own and now have over $400k in sales per year, its peanuts to some businesses of course, but for something I started myself I am quite proud of it. Next year I will be purchasing a warehouse to move the business out of my home and expanding, meaning I doubt that I will be able to attend school if this round of applications does not work. Does this give me a major leg up?

Look into Columbia GS and Cornell. I know Columbia GS gets a lot of shit for being the 'crappy' undergraduate college, but considering your business, you have a pretty solid story for why you didn't end up going to a 'good' college right out of high school, especially considering your SAT, which shows you're pretty bright. Cornell accepts a lot of transfers in general, so I think you'd have a solid chance there.

You satarted with $400 you are not doing $400K fuck school and focus on that go to school after you sell it...you may have something quite nice on your hands.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.
