University Shut Down Rest of Year for Coronavirus
Just got an Email tonight from my university stating that starting in two weeks all Lectures will be held online as a precaution for Coronavirus until the end of the year. Did this happen to any else?
I’ve been hearing this. Nothing yet at my school. I know Amherst is shut down for the rest the semester already, any others?
A friend just told me UCSB was shut down, so I assume all the UCs are closed
UCLA is not closed
My Uni just received an email that we have an extra week of spring break.
some classes now being held online, classes with 50 or more have to be split to minimise exposure or otherwise be held online.
people still chilling like it's normal - it is, everyone should calm down.
Stanford GSB, Wash U Olin, and CBS as well.
Don't forget University of Washington ;)
Ours are online for the rest of the semester.
Ohio state
Harvard has closed too.
Vanderbilt, Ohio State and a few others suspended ops till end of March, for now.
Ironically this is spreading just like the virus. I think an over reaction but better safe than sorry. What I don't get are the ones that gave gone online and still let kids live on campus. How does that help with kids in the dorm and dining commons?
Good point on the risk of having a high density population. Among the schools I heard about, most have asked the students to go home.
Those living on campus are going to have a hell of a time. The university is putting a lot of pressure on people to not be around campus. How do they expect people to stay up in a shoebox all day?
American and GW closed
I think this will be the herd mentality as more and more are announcing closing for at least the rest of March. My guess is it will be the rest of the semester. Hope it doesn't effect job offers (summer and FT). Lots of companies are starting to suggest telecommuting. Don't know how you have training classes for newbies in that environment.
For those living in apartments, are you leaving campus for parents home?
It makes sense for colleges to transition to online classes. From a legal standpoint, it covers their ass in a situation that a student gets sick. From a financial standpoint, they will still charge students for tuition and boarding.
There’s a petition going around some schools to lower tuition cost for the semester. It won’t work but interesting to see it’ll how it will go down
yeah, university of Phoenix as well. crazy
Lol
They're probably advising students to do in-person classes since online is the normal way of doing things lolol.
Kind of overblown imo but I get it from a legality standpoint. It's going to suck if they cut down summer/FT classes because of this - I need the newbies to take over so I can take a breather.
Yeah happened at my uni too. Pretty much all schools have gone online.
MIT Harvard TCU Brandeis Babson Nova ... this is crazy
Funny to see that happening in the US where the situation is much better than Europe and in Europe nothing has yet happened... makes us question the responsibility of European schools.
