Urgent: Firm Partnership Attire

If someone has a serious VC meeting or serious meeting with a top firm, but they are known for having laid back attire in their offices (I'm talking about no dress code laid back) what is someone suppose to wear?

Casual dress shirt, cufflinks, skinny tie, and some slacks?

What goes well with a black wool blazer that has vertical white stripes?

What goes well with grey wool slacks? should the former and latter be worn together?

Also, the biggest question! If someone's blazer is to loose, is it appropriate to move the buttons in a way that when closed, covers a quarter of the outside pocket? That's what the tailor suggested, but is there a more appropriate method to fit it?

Black blazer with grey slacks is fine if that's all you have as it sounds last second. I hope by vertical white stripes you mean pin stripes and not chalk stripes.

For future reference, black really doesn't exist anymore in formal clothes. For a go to sport coat I would stick to navy, which goes with essentially everything except black pants (which again don't really exist).

For grey slacks, any color shirt is fine. Really any. But if the sport coat is black, it's probably easiest to just wear white. Blues would probably be alright but I'm a no black and blue guy...

Wearing a "casual" wso/">dress shirt with cuff links really shouldn't exist because "casual" dress shirts would probably never be french cuff shirts. Please don't wear cuff links with a shirt that isn't french cuffs.

Wearing a skinny tie doesn't seem casual to me it seems hipster. When I think skinny I think of punk kid. I wear slim ties, but not skinny ties. Measure the width and ensure it's at least 2.5-2.75 inches wide.

For the blazer, it can be taken in in the back, but that may take more time than you have on your hands. If you have to move the button so much that it actually covers part of the pocket, I think that would look really weird... Maybe I'm picturing it wrong but that's a TON.

Shit. Okay, well it sounds like my tomorrow evening will be brick and mortar shopping.

I always thought slim ties and skinny ties are the same thing just ranged different, I'm a small guy so a normal tie can sometimes look ridiculous on me.

Must I burn it if we're talking chalk stripes? This blazer is a thin soft black wool with faded grey/white chalk stripes.

My bad on the cufflinks.

So, should I get it taken in the back if I can, or move the buttons? The blazer is my size but it's a little to broad because I'm small, I need it tightened about an two or three inches, thus a quarter of one of the pockets would be covered.

I have the meeting material covered, but I need to be presentable not dbagy but at the same time not coming in with shorts and nikes. I'm not sure a suit is optimal for this situation.

WellsNotice:
Just go suit no tie, you don't have to drop all the way to their level. You should probably be more focused on the actual meeting?

Wear a blue suit with a white shirt a tie, you can take off the tie beforehand if you feel comfortable. it is ALWAYS better to be overdressed than under dressed. Keep in mind, you are trying to impress them, they've earned the right to dress causally, you haven't yet.

Also you are going to have to have the suit tailored so it fits properly if you don't already own one. I wouldn't save buying that for the last minute.

And never wear cuff links without a suit or you are going to look like the biggest d-bag in the world.

If you wear a tie, wear a jacket - this isn't prep school anymore.

I guess what you need is to relax first. At times the biggest problem is we are too anxious to look good that we overdo it and you certainly don't want that. If the blazzer is loose then keep it open and wear a formal but funky plain tie (probably a two sided one would do it perfectly like black on the front and shocking pink on the back) Have a great one.
