What Is The Most Overrated Movie or TV Show?

We have plenty of "best movies/TV shows" threads, but what do you think are the most overrated ones? Not the worst (obviously there's an infinite amount of garbage), but what is seen by most people as good or excellent but you think it's just meh or downright bad. I'll start with "There Will Be Blood"; don't get me wrong, it's an ok movie, but a lot of people think it's one of the best ever. That I just don't see. To me it was just very slow, it did have it's interesting parts, but after watching I just felt very underwhelmed. What are yours?

I absolutely love fantasy and was a Tolkien fan before the movies were even made......and I didn't like Game Thrones.  Everything about my interests says I should but it just didn't interest me.

Also, I'm not a fan of shows with pointless nudity (aka most HBO stuff). If it's a part of the story, then great, but if you're just putting it in for no reason, it feels like dumbed down porn for the masses.  Tolkien didn't need random sex scenes to make his novel legendary.

there will be blood

game of thrones

peaky blinders

sicario

bad times at the el Royale
place beyond the pines
interstellar
arrival
howls moving castle
predestination
edge of tomorrow
Django unchained
and basically any modern movie and any movie that uses obvious CGI
I cant remember the last modern movie I enjoyed. probably uncut gems, but obviously that isn't new.

Jeez. Almost all the movies you both mentioned are fucking amazing. Yes, the hype was much but it was worth the hype imo. Esp Game of Thrones. Watched the series, read the books. Amazing -- except for the shit show that was the ending.

I cheered when everyone died during Infinity Wars because I thought there would be no more sequels about those characters.

you're my hero

I didn't enjoy "There Will be Blood" that much either tbh, I watched it for a class in high school and then again recently and still didn't get why everyone loves it so much.

Agree with you on PTA, his movies are pretentious crap...But the Coens and Tarantino make some of the most rewatchable movies out there.  Breaking bad is one of the best shows ever.. it would have been perfect without skyler and walt junior...they were insufferable.

a clockwork orange and taxi driver

and i dont wanna hear the "the films explore the wandering mind of troubled men in an errotic unconventional manner that has never been conveyed in film"

theres a reason why it hasnt, if i was the first to take a shit off the empire state building it doesnt mean its a good thing.

I think the philosophical underpinning in A Clockwork Orange is quite interesting: is it truly moral to do "good" if you had no free will in the matter? Is it better to have free will and allow people to do "bad"? Without free will, one might be viewed as a simple machine, hence, a clockwork orange.

I heard it picks up/is actually funny, but that pilot was pretty bad imo so haven't gotten around to the rest.

The original Dune. Omg talk about being lost and bored to sleep almost had me drooling in my sleep. And recently reminisce starring Huge Jackman. Talk about a waste of a budget.

SafariJoe, wins again!

Shape of Water did suck ass. There was one Michael Shannon line that I thought was hilarious when he was talking to the black cleaning lady and was saying something like "God made us in his image" and then looks at her and says "not like you", something like that. Overall trash film

I know not liking popular things can be controversial, but Friends is a terrible show that isn't funny at all. "PIVOT!" wtf is that, I really don't understand why this show was so popular. A friend of mine watches it on my HBO, I confronted her about it after more than a couple beers, and it unfortunately did not end well for me because half the room also liked it.

Honestly, Billions - I can’t get over how ridiculous the dialogue is… it went from ‘people don’t really talk like that’ to ‘here comes a 30 second exposition when they could’ve just said ‘yes’

My favorite is the Russian mafia guy who thinks nothing of having someone murdered but would never dream of using the improper pronouns for a non-binary person.

Haha yeah the funniest part of that show was how respectful everyone was in using non-binary pronouns and no one even made fun of Taylor. So PC. I expected at least one person to protest, but everyone was so respectful, which I doubt would happen in reality. They definitely wanted the show to be edgy, but also fully politically correct.

There Will Be Blood is one of the best movies of the last 20 years, I obsessed with PTA, easily one of my favorite directors working today.

My picks are Mudbound, The Squid and the Whale (most of Noah Baumbach), An American in Paris, Rosemary's Baby, I'm Not There, Mean Streets, Winter's Bone (JLaw was good tho), The Cabin in the Woods, Snowpiercer (honestly most of Bong Joon Ho except Parasite I did like), The Last of the Mohicans, Roma.

Roma was overrated and they made it a little hard to follow. Cold War should have won for best international movie that year.

I can't find the link, but that just reminded me of the scene in The Sopranos when Carmella and the other mob wives watch it and don't really have that much to say about it.
