What MBA schools should I target?
25, Asian M. Humanities background from a Russell Group uni in London (strong 2:1) and strong a-levels (AAA).
I work in a global FTSE 15 listed financial institution. In the space of two years I’ve been promoted from executive, associate to senior associate in various market analytics/ trading analysis roles. Completed a coveted government internship prior. I would like to pivot to a more business development role within my existing firm or similar, and feel applying for an MBA in 2 to 3 years will help.
Noting my limited quantitative background, I expect to probably end up scoring in the lower regions of 600 to 650 for the GMAT.
What sort of schools should I be targeting (no preference to location). I note a number of alumni’s of my existing company have went on to graduate from HBS, LBS & Wharton etc, however most of them had maths/eco undergraduate degrees.
If it helps, I’m in the process of pursuing the Level 1 CFA® .
Solid candidate, but you really need to work on your GMAT score. If you feel like your quantitative skills are not your strengths, I encourage you to consider taking the GRE. It's has more emphasis on Reading comp skills and less on math. Assuming you score a strong GMAT / GRE, I think you have a good shot at many Top 15 B schools, and honestly maybe a few stabs at the M7!
Thank you for the swift response. Would your response have differed out of interest if I was not at such reputable company? Asking so that I don’t kiss my MBA chances goodbye via moving companies in the interim lol.
Honestly being at a "brand name" firm definitely doesn't hurt you, but also remember most business schools are looking to advance their candidates as much as they can, so I don't think moving to a new firm would hurt you. If you can tell your story well and the move makes sense, I'd encourage it if you really want to move firms!
