What's so bad about finance chicks?

First off, i'll admit Im a noobie SA hopeful so my finance experience is nearly nill (internships and some other random stuff) but based on the girls in my finance classes, many of whom are also hoping to do IB, I don't get why guys here dislike finance chicks so much? Many are equally attractive as the women doing underwater basket weaving (aka "I'm a girl. Therefore, marriage gives m a free lifetime gravy train") They also are more direct which imo is better than "I love you, I hate you, I love you, ..."

The only exception would be that some girls (more so the asian ones at least with what I've seen) do finance because they have daddy issues. As in "my dad was a sexist prick so I'm gonna do everything he doesn't want me to do aka making $600K even if what I do is borderline illegal check, out-slutting all the dbags by making my one night stands similar to deal flow at GS, check. driving a lambo then racking up a bunch of speeding tickets, check. etc. etc.

So yeah besides for the girls I just described I don't get why guys here complain so much about finance women?

The issue is that many women age exponentially once they start working in the finance industry, at least such was the case in Big 4 audit, so I am assuming this can be the case with IB as well. Couple this with the "men age like wine, women age like milk" adage and you get the gist of why in many cases female finance professionals are often lacking in sex appeal. Of course this is not always the case, and often the same is true for men, but this is basically it for many people.

It's not daddy issues it's respect issues, as in "I'm not getting any respect so I'm gonna work hard, be like Mary Erdoes, make a shit ton of money for my company and become big boss at my firm." But it's not just women, it's minorities, gays/lesbians, anybody that feels marginalized in this world. They all walk around like they've got something to prove.

Mary Erdoes could get it.

Probably because, IMO, most girls in finance are gigantic bitches. Don't get me wrong, I like a girl with an attitude, but finance girls are just too power hungry. That's just the nature of finance and I'm probably a hypocrite because I'm a power hungry asshole, but I don't really want a girl that's just like me.

This is probably why bankers don't like dating each other.

Let's not forget about the fact that working with someone you're fucking is never a good idea.

not necessarily though

"I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature."

How much do you think you're making in IB? Yes, you'll live very comfortably.... you're not going to be driving a lambo from IB, I promise...

It looks like there are a lot of people talking here who aren't in industry yet, so I'll add a few things:

a) Personality. Finance tends to attract aggressive, hard-charging, even caustic people who know exactly what they want and how to get it. Those aren't qualities most men look for in women, so a woman who has those qualities and enters banking isn't going to score highly with most men. Even girls who weren't like that will eventually get influenced by their environment and those around them and pick up some of those traits.

b) Physicality. The lifestyle is rough. You work a lot of hours, sleep very little, have minimal time for exercise, and have a lot of money that you end up spending the wrong ways. It's easy to let your figure go, to over-indulge yourself at every meal because it's one of the few things you still enjoy and have control over, and to rationalize sleeping instead of exercising with whatever free time you get in the mornings or evenings. While that certainly doesn't do any good for guys, it wreaks absolute havoc on girls. The freshman fifteen has nothing on the female analyst's forty.

c) Appearance. Stress takes its toll on all of us. Men are sooner but slower to wrinkle than women, and even then, tend to look increasingly good with age. Women are the exact opposite. Wrinkles never increase a woman's looks, and the stressors that banking brings really aggravate that aging process. This is the classic "men age like wine, women age like bread" adage.

d) Hassle factor. Few people enjoy coming home to hear someone talk about a day that was exactly like their own. Dating someone who does the same thing you do isn't fun for most people. Even if you aren't dating, just carrying on a with-benefits relationship with someone in industry is challenging given the unpredictability and demanding nature of the hours.

As you can see, there are several reasons guys don't like dating female bankers. I wouldn't necessarily go so far as to say all girls in finance suffer from the above, though. Girls in S&T, particularly on the sales side, can be a great catch. They are often former varsity athletes from school, attractive, and outgoing. That's why there were hired, to be client-facing and win the attention (and business) of the fat, pasty guys on the buy-side who they cover. IR and HR girls -- same things apply too.

The girls you see in your classroom aren't what you'll see sitting beside you at 2am on a Wednesday as an analyst.

Also, daddy issues aren't exclusive to any one ethnicity. Daddy issues are exclusive to one gender: female. It's that simple.

As to why guys complain about female bankers, it's really simple. The guys complaining probably have a hard time getting laid, but they'll still complain about the girls they don't want. It's an easy way to vent.

Have a great one.

great post! I especially appreciate that you realized there is a big difference between the girls in sales and the girls in banking :-)

One thing to point out: the reason girls in sales are typically going to be more attractive than those in banking is because how attractive we are affects our job performance. knowing that I'll be working in sales this summer has motivated me like nothing else to go to the gym every day and lay off the desserts...haha

You need to stop making subtle references to how pretty you are and delete your account.
