When is the follow up email appropriate?

Hello Monkeys,

I recently stumbled upon a connection who insisted I send my resume their way so they could look it over as I am trying to break into the finance industry. This opportunity kind of just happened as I was planning to start sending my resume out in the new year (post CFA level 1 in December). So I put together my resume and a cover letter and sent it last week (Thursday) and received a reply acknowledging receipt that Friday morning. It is now a week later and I definitely want to follow up but, when is appropriate? Is today, a week later good? Or should I wait till next Monday?

Please just send a reply. Don't waste this persons time. Are you trying to play hard to get or something?
