Why do y’all accept my LinkedIn request but don’t respond to the networking note?
So I have been networking heavily for the past month on LinkedIn and I have left a note on the connection giving a quick background and stating that they either went to my university or were part of some organization and that I want to ask them some questions about their career. Some of them end up accepting my request but never respond to my note. I have even sent another message after that just reiterating my desire to ask some questions and still no response. So my question is, why do y’all accept the request but don’t have the desire to have a call? Could it be because they get busy suddenly or just blindly accept? Just curious if I need to improve my strategy.
Don't use linkedin, get their emails and do it that way. I've had much better response rate sending emails than linkedin messages. The only thing linkedin is useful for is finding alums to reach out to.
I agree that email is better. I guess I have been focusing mainly on LinkedIn because email can be luck focused. But why I accept the request but not respond to the note for a call?
Sometimes people see a notification request come in and just click connect without reading the note. It's worth following up again on a separate note once a few days after they accept just to make sure they see it...if they still don't respond at that point, then move on.
I see that. Appreciate the insight.
I've seen a lot of this. They accept my request and then read my note but no response. Then I follow up and no response. Always confused at that.
Because we need the 500+
Lol facts
Linkedin is the new grindr
I Accept just about any LinkedIn request that comes in but unless it's someone whose name (or school, Company, Hometown, etc.) I quickly recognize I'm unlikely to read the note. Nothing personal just the nature of getting a lot of spam on there for various products, services, and C-list recruiters. I echo the above that email is much better way to reach out if you can. I do list my personal email in my LinkedIn for this reason.
I’ve been guilty of this. Usually I read the note, hit accept, and think “I’ll respond when I free up”… and then by the time I free up a week later I have a dozen other things I need to do and it completely slips my mind.
I have seen people get so many new connection requests within a few weeks - when joining a new firm (ie they announce all the new joiners via email), or starting a program internally. Most I know don't read the request but just blanket accept everyone.
