Yes occasionally but typically business causal

Well, in that case, you might want to get two coats.  One for everyday, and one for dress.  For dress, a long wool coat would make sense.  Your own style will determine the color of it.  A while back, I had two long wool coats:  a charcoal grey and a light brownish tweed.  I rarely wore the charcoal one.  For casual coats, I like North Face and Patagonia.

Arcteryx. As warm as moncler and goose with a more modest label and excellent warranty. Another good one is UBR. Made in the Denmark or something with 1000 fill and designed for the urban lifestyle/work

Dude the above may have some points but just wear what's warmest to you. Whether it's CG or Moncler or Valentino, no one will care. The cold in NYC, speaking as a CA transplant of 7 years, is debilitating. Just sample stuff and buy what works. Honestly, sometimes the pricier stuff is better and that's okay. This is worth it.

On the days that it gets so cold & people are just looking to survive, nobody will care about your style. That being said, I have a Canada Goose parka (worth every penny) and an overcoat for the -10 to -20c days
