Yelling at Your Boss

So I'm currently a SA in a BB's middle office role and I hate my boss. I don't plan to return to the BB or pursue MO roles in other BBs. Can I yell at my boss on the last day of work? To let that son of a bitch know that low piece of fuck is only in MO because he couldn't get into that BB's IBD (his early years). Discuss.

Wouldn't that be a tad bit ironic? Yelling at your boss for being in MO for not getting IB in his early years...when you are in MO in your early years because you couldn't get IB.

I understand your frustration. Most , if not all, have had to put up with similar managers. If you go ahead and do it, you'd win the battle but lose the war.

End of day, do not forget, he pays your salary. We're all in it for same thing. Be wise, control your rage....your time will come.

by yelling @ him, you're burning bridges. Never draw a line in sand unless you've soldiers on both side.

Plus, venting is for female.

Short answer : dont do it.

i've wanted to do that at one stage to someone i worked with (although i never did end up meeting that sonofabitch again).

my suggestion - treat him as a mentor who taught you great things, or at least someone who you wouldn't mind hanging out with. it's to your benefit, cos there may be a time where he can help you out. whisper he doesn't need to know what you really think about him.

(that's also a good reason why i don't stress out worrying what people think of me. people might hide their feelings all the time - are you going to stress about what EVERY friend or acquaintance thinks of you?)

maybe you just wanted to vent. i can understand - wso is anonymous

FACEPALM

It's sometimes tempting to yell at your manager. When my manager was being a wimp when it comes to giving the senior guys pushback on some senseless initiative, I could be a little snarky and I would sometimes ask pointed questions very... pointedly- for what I thought were constructive reasons. But you can't yell at work.

A newly-minted MBA on our team somehow thought that I worked for him and yelled at me saying I needed to get something done in front of about 50 people. I didn't work for him- but the managers saw how he handled difficult situations as he might if he were a manager. Later, folks were coming up to him and saying, "Dude. You just yelled at IlliniProgrammer on a programming issue. There's not a whole lot of people in analytics who are more helpful to everyone than him; it's kinda like yelling at your Grandpa." I don't hold grudges and feel terrible about what happened to him, but it ultimately got him knocked off the management track, and word spread to folks at other firms that he was a bit of a hothead. If you don't yell at your coworkers, you CERTAINLY don't yell at your boss.

It sounds like this is your first summer job. This guy is ultimately paying you for YOUR time. He is NOT paying you to yell at him.

There are better ways of being a jerk to your boss than yelling at him. I suggest you get the BB FO offer, and after telling your parents, make him the first person you email- PARTICULARLY if he hates your guts. Let him know that you got the offer from JPM and that it just wouldn't have happened if you hadn't had the opportunity to work for him this summer. You can take comfort in the fact that he will be filled with a burning rage when he hears about how things worked out for you if he hates you; he'll also be happy if he actually liked you, so it's sort of a win-win to share your successes with former coworkers/managers.

Some people can't do that. My trick these days- that I learned after my first summer job- is to convince myself that my manager was a total genius. Heck, if he hired someone as smart as me, he can't be dumb, right? :D

If you have a healthy respect for your manager, you can safely get into a heated discussion with him about something you think he's making a mistake on- because the respect is there and you're not going to yell at him and/or tell him off. You might go into a rant about the people you think he's letting walk all over him and his group, but if it's behind closed doors and it's just you and him, it's not going to do any permanent damage.

No one cares what you think or feel. Get a fucking life. You're lower than the low. You're bad mouthing this MO guy, but you work under him. If you're too fucking pristine to be working in the MO and you're above being dealt with in the manner that your boss treats you, then get your shit together and get a job in position where you don't have such an ego bruising.

You're a bitch, you get bitched at. Thats the way of the world. If you happen to be employed by someone who treats you like the bitch that you are, you have to take it or leave. That occurs in the back office, it occurs in the middle office and it occurs in the front office. You seem to be implying that while you'll take it from the guy in the FO, you won't from the MO guy because you're so much better than him. By virtue of you being in the MO and working under him, even as an intern, you're not better than him. You're not even comparable to him. Because he has a MO office job, and you will, if you're lucky, be offered one (judging by your attitude, I doubt you will). You're not even in the FO ballpark, and until and unless... actually, even when you are... keep your pimply face down and keep your mouth shut or find your way into a field where people ask you politely to, if you're not too busy, do shit, if its not too much trouble and cordially bring to your attention the numerous places in which you fucked up and as a result are causing them to have to re-do your work.

I personally don't think you should. Its not about being a pussy vs. big man..its more about burning your bridges and leaving on a good note. Hey, you had a shitty summer, but you got something good on your resume. Everything good comes with a downside, just gotta ignore the downside and move on.

I see this trader who yells at the head of trading his boss all the time but he gets away with it. i dont think its mean yelling though i think the guy just gets excited. the boss never gets offended. I don't see myself doing anything like that even if we're "buddies"
