Global investor in PE?

Hi everyone:

I’ve always heard that PE is a regional business- ie, for each Individual Investment Professional, they need to specialize on both industry and region (North America, or Europe, or Asia, etc).

What do you think of this statement? Do you think it’s valid?

Secondly, if one is interested in becoming a PE investment professional who invests across regions (or benefits from knowing multiple region’s developments and investment thesis), which sector do you think makes it more feasible? Is it software due to its technology? Telecom /infra due to its large capital structure? Or consumer given fashion /trends? Just throwing some ideas out there, I’m not sure about the answer myself.

Thank you!
