What’s Worse, Facebook or LinkedIn?
A recent thought crossed my mind, if I had 5 minutes to browse one of these social media platforms, which one do you think is more likely to lead to the desire to pluck your own eyes out?
Between Facebook being complete nonsense of distant high-school acquaintances posting 100 pics of their kids, or that one family friend or aunt sharing some “edgy” “ironic” picture with a caption about their love of alcohol.
Or LinkedIn with the most fake people not only patting/congratulating every one of their ‘connections’ in some weird circle jerk dystopian, but also going the extra mile to post a self-congratulating post about all the life mentors and support their connections gave to enable them to achieve their summer internship offer. Also, the motivational individuals on LinkedIn is a whole other story.
It’s really a tough decision, at least the odd high school stoners post on Facebook gives me a laugh.
Facebook is worse. Not even close. Most of the time my messages are unique INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES to provide full time RESIDUAL INCOME with part time hours. This is an opportunity only shared with me because they remember how SMART and HARDWORKING I was throughout high school. To have a better TEAM around me, they trust my judgment to invite FRIENDS and FAMILY that I trust to share this OPPORTUNITY with.
Too bad I hate money so I’m passing up on being a multimillionaire about two or three times a month now.
I'm sorry to hear about your problems with too much money. I can solve your problems of too much money for a small fee.PM me to drain your account or if you want to start a NP.
Facebook for sure. It’s a cancerous shit show and FUCK ZUCK HE’S A DUMB CUCK
You're having sex in your bed late into the night. Lots of panting, moaning and sweaty action. And just as you were about to climax, across the not-so-eerie silence at that specific moment, you hear it. An audible throaty click.
You look around you, but you don't find any possible source. Your schlong goes limp slowly, the missus is begging you to go harder. But you don't....
And finally you see him.....or rather, it. High up in your bedroom ceiling, hanging upside down, something who has been watching you all the while.
Zuck, the lizard cuck.
What the tits?
I did not need this kind of imagery in my life
It's a tough one - linkedin has the messenger feature that I use to try and connect with people and drum up interest. It also allows me to look for contacts and basically everything Linkedin was originally created for is great. So just for this linkedin is better.
Facebook i went off it for two years, went back on it last month, just decided to go off it again as it's a pure waste of time. I get the odd messages, but installed the facebook messenging app on my phone to make sure I don't miss any of the random messages from an old lost friend.
I skip the wall on linkedin - it's just weird and the same people posting the same things on it.
In other words: neither are worth wasting time on. Linkedin has a utilitarian perspective you should use but not every day.
Facebook hands down. That place is a cesspool.
Facebook sucks if you're reading people's shitty wall posts, which is partly your own fault cause you can control who you add, but I skip all that nonsense and mostly use it to follow certain pages for articles and certain interest groups. Plus, the algorithm picks up on stuff that you read, comment, like, so if you keep seeing the same nonsense, that's based on your viewing habits.
Facebook and it is not even close.
Not in the original question, but Twitter is hands down the worst social media platform.
Its user base is comprised of some of the loudest, most reactionary, and idiotic members of society.
The entire platform incents stream of conscious posts, where crap and outrage just immediately finds its way from the user's brain to the Tweet. No filter or real though, just spewing garbage as loudly as possible to those that listen (and who probably also share the same viewpoints and vapid personalities already).
HOT take
I can agree on Twitter, but the Twitter subcultures are where it's at. VC Twitter is the worst. I think those guys go into VC solely to use that as a stamp of approval to post their asinine drivel about "adding value to our port-cos with Kevin and co.! Great group of guys! Great sense of style, too ha ha ha [insert picture of guys in Patagonia vests]! Read my blog for more on the HARD thing about breaking into VC after you pray at your Elon Musk altar! Let me know how I can be helpful!" These guys are the direct result of not being picked for kickball in elementary school.
I agree about the subcultures and I like FinTwit. Lots of very nice and knowledgeable people there who invest in the public markets. Most are quite friendly, some have great ideas and insights to share.
Lots of people dunk on VC Twitter (although I think Bill Gurley is a good follow), but a funny account I found that does it is @VCBrags and a few other good parody accounts.
Aside from the acidic newsfeed, I actually find Linkedin to be a helpful work resource, whether it be connecting with capital providers, executives at companies, or other IB guys.
Facebook, on the other hand, is a complete waste of time.
Non sequitur. Twitter is the cesspool of cesspools. It is the most poisonous social media platform I have ever been on.
Facebook without a doubt
Facebook is worse, but LinkedIn is just as ridiculous since there are so many people sharing info that should not be shared anywhere but Facebook (if even there). Just in the past week I've seen posts about beating alcoholism and a woman posting a video asking guys not to hit on her through the messaging tool.
My Facebook is filled with Ivy League home-run hitters with strong connections to the worlds most powerful families. My LinkedIn connections have not been shotgun spammed like a college student on his knees for a position at a Bulge Bracket. It has been carefully, and after strenuous thought, crafted to yield only pro-bono non-profit opportunities, where I'd have the chance to cross paths with the likes of Christine Boyd, Cole Diamond, Daniel Hochman, Charlie Javice, and Mikko Salovaara.
Well I hope WSO featured content on those platforms is a small oasis in the stream of shit that at least occassionally makes you laugh? :-)
I'd say Facebook is worse...
Your LinkedIn posts are the only reason I scroll. Helps catch some of the good posts I miss or whenever you bring back one of the classics.
Big fan of WSO LinkedIn content.
Hey now - give the kids on LinkedIn a break. Timmy is super proud of himself and excited to share that he worked super hard to get the SA offer at JPM's treasury department in Kingman, AZ. He made over 10,000 calls and had no help; had to do it all on his own. He just wants to share with the world and thank Karen, Janice, Tom, Brad, Dylan, Kevin, and Joanne for cheering him on through the recruiting process. He's wanted this since he was 2. Plus, he is Forbes 30 Under 30 for Finance professionals between 5'8" and 5'10" who wear navy blue with yellow stripes on Tuesdays, that own a lime green 2017 Toyota Camry and have a credit score of 728.
I visibly cringed once I read that little Timmy owns a lime green Toyota Camry.
Used to be Facebook, but LinkedIn definitely is #1 now.
Do not see such delusional shit on FB as much I do on LinkedIn.
...but are you really a Russianbot? don't want to have to use the ban hammer ;)
I'd say Facebook but over the span of a couple months I slowly muted all of my friends' posts as they popped up. My Facebook feed is now just news articles with the occasional funny video.
Facebook for sure, but are we really forgetting about the fucking boomers on LinkedIn reposting the same awkward stories that are completely irrelevant and inappropriate? Can't decide who is worse... The old heads or the kids that post about how hard their decision was choosing between two job offers.
What kind of psycho makes a post about her niece's period? What the absolute fuck?
LinkedIn 100%. You can delete Facebook, but are forced to keep linkedIn with your eyes pried wide open to witness, "I am proud to announce that I accepted a full-time position with Robinhood summer 2028. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have interned with such a great company, it was a life changing experience to work with people that facilitated the future leaders in finance on reddit that leverage their portfolio 48x. I can't want to see where the future leads me!! Thank you so much to everyone at Alta Beauty and Alpha beta fatty kappa sluet sigma who supported me along the way!!
The Forbes 30 under 30 self posts on LinkedIn are a fucking joke. If you receive an important award, you don’t need to post it yourself and say you are humbled. With that said, Facebook posts cause cancer.
Just got Facebook, and it's way, WAY better than Myspace.
Facebook and not even close
I hate Facebook. LinkedIn is cringey and sometimes has Facebook-esque posts but its not nearly as bad yet.
Don't even see the point of Facebook honestly.. comedy on Twitter, pictures on Instagram, work on LinkedIn (what it should be anyway). Embarrassing weird statuses no one cares about? Facebook
Just use IG and Twitter then. Nobody said you have to use it ffs
