Moelis

I looked through a lot of the older posts about Moelis and they seem a bit dated.

So here goes: What does everyone think of an analyst experience at Moelis vs. a BB bank? Also, how do you think the experience varies from the Moelis office in NYC to the Moelis office in LA?

If an analyst is interested in exiting after 2-3 years to a megafund, do you think he or she is in better shape coming from Moelis or from a BB bank?

Thanks!

I looked through that post but what does everyone think of Moelis in terms of prestige and exit opportunties?

Since they are so new, do you think megafunds will recruit their analysts heavily?

Would you take Moelis over say a Financial Sponsors, Levfin, or M&A group at a BB firm (not GS, MS, or JPM)?

exit opps anyone?

let me preface this by

let me preface this by saying that this (like any other rank/prestige question) is entirely subjective.

Exit opps at moelis are probably better on the west coast, where moelis has the most clout. PE shops that are focused on the entertainment space would probably take a lot of kids from there, and you might be able to get into a large movie production house in SBD.

If you mean universal exit opps (how far the name on your resume travels), then I think its pretty obvious that a name like GS, JPM, or MS will take you further. Unless you're already at a BB though, I don't think Moelis would take you. Looks like every analyst there is a former banker (check the website), reason being that Moelis doesn't have a training program. Why pay to train your analysts when you can get someone else to do it for you?

What? You're wrong. They recruit out of undergrad...
