Solid post. I agree with most everything but the part about Elin. She is more or less the victim. She seems pretty genuine and I'm not saying that she deserves to be compensated $100 M for Tiger finding stray women all the time. Tiger definitely screwed her (by way of screwing everyone but her).
Most men get totally owned in a court of law and that part is wrong. The ex-wife right or wrong in nearly any case receives the home, 1/2 a 401k, a car, custody of kids, and half his wallet and one of his arms and legs. The "dead-beat father" ends up paying child support and alimony and many times struggles financially while the ex lives a comfortable life with her boyfriend financed by the old hubby.
There is definitely a lesson in prenupts, but as far as Elin is concerned, her husband didn't have what I would call a normal "indiscretion". With that said, hopefully Tiger gets back to playing lights out with this out of the way.
The problem is, when you are the head of the household, the breadwinner and a very famous, very wealthy person...it is a no-win situation for you. Maybe Elin is a cold heart bitch at home and "drove" Tiger to the other woman...we don't know. Maybe she was waiting at home for the love of her life to get home from the course...we don't know. What we do know is that there is no way for Tiger, or anyone like him, to win.
My net worth will probably never come close to that of Tiger but this whole situation got me thinking a lot about how necessary marriage really is(my parents will not be happy to hear me say that)? I think it is a security device for women. They think the term "bf" and "husband" is magical and makes you incapable of cheating on them. Obviously that isn't the case, it just gives them a false sense of comfort.
The settlement in this case, whatever it ends up being, is going to be far too much. I realize in some cases that a wife does contribute significantly to her husbands success and may be entitled to some of the money, but this surely isn't one of those scenarios. She was nothing and still is nothing. She is Tiger's wife, that is it. She adds no value to him or his play as a professional golfer or spokesperson and is really nothing more than a baby sitter.
Tiger fucked up, there is no doubt about that and he is being punished, but it amazes me how ready and willing these courts are to rape the husbands/fathers in these situations.
I guess the ultimate issue here is that laws don't enforce themselves and the application of the laws vary based on the personal opinion(s) of the judge/jury. It is far too easy to make the wife look like the victim in these scenarios, especially when the husband was cheating.

The only thing that can be done is a long term return to voting and thinking conservatively. Mind you, I am not talking about thumping bibles. I am talking about common sense and addressing the realities between the sexes. At some point in the 20th century (my guess is as "Hitler backlash") all discussion relating to genetic and gender based differences ceased to exist and became offensive, blasphemous, wrong, etc. The truth of the matter is that most women nest. It is as cultural as it is genetic. Yes, some women are ambitious and independent. SOME. The VAST MAJORITY, however, expect to be taken care of.
This is also a crucial factor is why most women (especially the younger ones) vote liberal. The government has become their husband/father provider figure and they are more than happy to rape a man's hard work. Marriage in this country is becoming a very sophisticated form of indentured servitude. Except that it's idiotic men begging for their shackles.

Midas, I will agree with you. It seems that outrage is preprogrammed into people It is hard to have a serious discussion at most people at my college since they are all to sensitive. This is not just liberals but conservatives as well. Everyone feigns outrage when I tell them that women are not that good in science or that black people score lower on the SATs.

While I tend to agree with the overall theme of this post, I think some misinformation is here.
When you enter into a prenup you need to make sure both parties have a lawyer and are advised of the situation. You also cannot be unduly unfair. You simply cannot take an uneducated woman and force down her throat a prenup that says when it is over you get jack shit. You have to be equitable and fair.
Additionally, Tiger cheated. He broke the marriage contract. Had he divorced her without evidence of cheating things would be different. You can't treat your wife like dog shit and when she dumps you for just cause expect to get away free and clear.
Here is a hint to all the guys here. Don't marry uneducated losers. If you are making good money marry in your league. Problem is Tiger is probably a geek. He saw the hottest piece in his life and got blinded. Now he is going to pay, plain and simple.

Also, where is the incentive compatibility? As I grow in stature, so does that "lifestyle she's accustomed to". THIS is the key factor in divorce proceedings and the #1 reason why prenuptial agreements can only protect you to an extent. Simultaneously, if her getting older, wrinklier and blubberized may be a factor in "my" cheating, isn't this MORE of a motivating factor for the wife to let herself go? I know the logic is perverted, but think about the amount of women out there marrying for money, security, social status...

It's great that Tiger Woods has a lot of money. But he "deserves" it for playing golf as much as the wife "deserves" her share for having sex / kids with him. People get paid ridiculous amounts of money. The idea of fair is not really meaningful with money.
How is she not the victim ("portrayed as the victim")? She was a model with tons of options and she married... Tiger. He then went out, got drugged all the time and went out fucking gross sluts in Vegas and then having unprotected sex with the mother of his kids.

I agree with the general tone of this thread. The Tiger case is completely ridiculous, and Elin doesn't deserve more than maybe 10 million or something. But the last couple of posts are getting ridiculously misogynistic/ racist. For example, eokpar02, my SAT scores were almost definitely higher than yours, and I am black. And I know soo many asian bitches that would kick your ass at science and math. Nurture and culture define who we are more than genetic diferences. I was born into a moderately well off family and I am honestly more culturally similar to an.. indian/ white person or something in terms of worth ethic and aspirations. I think my SAT scores are a reflection of those two facts and have nothing to do with me being black.

The problem with talking about "most women" is that it directly leads to making assumptions about "every" woman. For example, I think most women are bad at science and in fact 80% are bad at science. I am an admissions interviewer. I meet the next Marie Curie and assume she is bad at science (in line with probability), because she is a woman. She gets denied. This is a huge mistake and society does not discover radioactivity, cancer diagnosis, or 2 new elements.
Alternatively, we assume every woman is as good as every man, and maybe accidentally accept 10 women who are marginally worse than 10 men who are marginally better.
There are very, very few extraordinary people and it is worth it to not discriminate against whole groups in order to not discriminate against those few extraordinary people who may be in that group. Great example is Albert Einstein.

The evidence that we have can suggest that women are not as good as logical thinkers as men. Consider that Men dominate in Philosophy, Physics and Mathematics. The analogies section on the SAT was removed, because men trounced women on those types of problems. For every one high end female outlier on the IQ test, there are 13 males. There could be other explanations for the above, but the above explanation has not been disproved.
