Acadian Asset Management?

Hey, guys.

Anyone know anything about, or have experience with, Acadian Asset Management in Boston? Culture, reputation (how good will this look on my resume!), if they have a training program for undergrad interns?

I am a junior attending school outside of Boston, and am trying to get an undergrad summer internship in asset management. I am applying to all the big banks of course, but I did some networking and landed a meeting for next week with the future CEO of Acadian. Acadian is all about quant investing, though I am not sure if it is black-box or if they use quant methods to narrow down their stock universe and then use a more fundamental approach to select stocks. I am pretty unfamiliar with this type of firm. However, I have made it clear that my quant skills are probably barely brushing the surface of what goes on Acadian... but they still want to meet with me.

Regardless, I'm hoping that I make a good impression and that they would like to hire me for the summer. While I have no advanced experience in quant investing, this would probably be my best opportunity to learn about it... and that, imo, will be extremely valuable down the road. Or would equity research at UBS/JPM/MS/GS be a better program if given the opportunity? I just do not know.

So, yeah, if anyone has any thoughts, experience, or info on Acadian that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help D:

For those interested, just met with a senior member there. Excellent meeting that lasted about an hour, very friendly culture from what I could tell... it was fairly late at night but the receptionist was friendly, everyone said goodbye to her on their way out, I was introduced to someone around my age for a possible networking opportunity, and the man I met with and his assistant were both extremely friendly. Nice office, too.

If you're interested in asset management and can handle quant research, as in a computer whiz who excels in writing coding, building models, etc. then definitely look here, I believe they are still recruiting for this summer. Ultimately for me though, I do not have those computer skills, but was offered additional help in my search for a summer internship and possible firm to build a career in asset management at. Nice place.

Good luck.

Really variable in my opinion. I had a total of 4 phone interviews and some where purely fit and discussion about previous research experience while others were basically all technical based, mostly on CS and mathematical statistics. No real pattern in my opinion either as 1 of the technical interviews was with an associate and 1 was with a portfolio manager, same with the fit interviews.

thanks. What sort of CS/statistics questions were you asked? were they focused on data structures/algorithms or more generally just making sure you had experience with a programming language?
