BlackRock 2025 Analyst 1st Round Interview- Private Markets Investing Product Strategy

Hi everyone,

I have a first-round interview coming up for an analyst role in BlackRock’s Private Markets Investing-Infrastructure Debt-Product Strategy team and was hoping to get some advice here.

Afaik, the interview is a 2x30 minute principles and competency based interview.

  1. What kind of questions should I expect? For those who have been through the process, what were some of the questions you faced or areas the interviewers emphasized?
  2. What technical knowledge should I brush up on or is it not necessary at all for 1st round?
  3. What should I know about the team and the role? Any insights on day to day role of an analyst in Product strategy, what skills or knowledge is most valued in this team etc
  4. Any tips on aligning with BlackRock principles/values?
  5. Any idea on how the interview will be structured?

Also what does the analyst role application process look like and timeline?

Thanks in advance!

You're unlikely to be asked anything technical for product strategy roles. You'll need to prep significantly for why you want to work in infrastructure without just parroting the Fink/GIP patter that everyone's already heard.

Product strategists are just a glorified IR team, most of your work as an intern will be competitor analysis, contributing to reports and probably an intern project reviewing some form of investment on a macro level.

Thanks for the insights. The interview is for Analyst not intern. I’ve done some research into Infrastructure Debt nd its potential for long-term stable returns for clients, positive social and environmental impact, diversification, and increasing demand for private debt as banks slow down lending. From your perspective is there anything else I should highlight for questions e.g Why infrastructure debt? /why this role etc
