Career advice for a student looking for WLB in London
I am a 2nd year student at a finance-centered target school (LSE/Bocconi/HEC/ESSEC). I am a EU citizen and my main career goals are permanently moving to the UK (or US, but not possible due to visa) and earning as much as possible while not working above 60 hours a week because I honestly wouldn't like me as a person if I couldn't pursue things (for example a sport) outside of a work I don't even particularly like for extra money or perceived prestige. By taking a look around I came up with Corporate Banking and Asset Management as the two careers in finance that would fit my needs. S&T has nice hours and pay but I'm not sure about the culture long term. ECM and DCM I'm afraid could both regularly exceed the 60h per week threshold
Based your experience, what would be some nice career paths to pursue that could allow me to have a respectable WLB?
Please note that I am looking for things in finance because that's the field that allowed people from my background (nationality and university) to consistently find a permanent job in London with ease. Academics would be another one but I'd happily pass on that. Consulting seems to be recruiting only British people from Oxbridge and for other industries I am afraid I could have visa issues.
