Client Portfolio Management

I am currently a 1st-year analyst at a large AM firm on the institutional side of business based in a major city. I attended a large, non-target undergrad school with a solid (3.5) GPA and two summers of AM internships.

After starting my job, I had the chance to speak with a member of the client portfolio management team (CPM). This role is similar to that of a product specialist but a CPM serves as the conduit between clients and the portfolio management team. have a general understanding of what the role entails but was wondering if any current CPMs could give some insight as to how they got their job, the exit ops (even though it is an exit op for same), and the pay. Is this a lucrative position? Does it pay well at the mid-career level?

Any help would be appreciated!
