Compensation Buyside Equity Research Analyst and Rotman MBA

Hey everyone,

I am trying to decide if I should complete my MBA at Rotman of School of Management. However, I am not sure if it would be worth the cost. I am not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident so the Rotman MBA would be my foot in the door in Canada so it is definitely worth it from that angle. However, in terms of job prospects and potential earning, I am not sure.

My intention is to pursue a buyside equity role after my MBA, I currently have CFA level I and will sit level II in August. I also currently work in Central America/Caribbean at a fund with $1B AUM.

My two major concerns are;

1) The significantly lower salary in Canada relative to the USA, I have seen salaries of CAD80K and 20% for a post MBA. Are these figures what I can expect after my MBA or are they on the lower end?

2) How hard/easy will it be to land a role similar to the one recently advertised by Fidelity, CIBC etc

Finally, a part of my plan which I haven’t fully worked out is to eventually move/lateral to the US after a couple of years in Canada for the better opportunities, how farfetched is this idea?
