Difference between CFA materials and Schweser

Schweser is like 60% of the CFAI page count. I wasn't fond of Schweser for L2.

It's a lot. Schweser is 5x 300ish pages for level 1.

I didn't touch the CFAI stuff for L2 (we'll see in a few weeks whether that was a good idea or not) but what I heard was that for L2 the CFAI materials are actually fairly concise as opposed to in L1 where I found the CFAI materials would frequently veer really far off the LOS.

My gut says the best approach would have been Schweser and do CFAI EOC's very carefully.

They cover everything you need to know at about 60% of the volume. The CFA books are far to dense for my personal taste.

How do you guys find the Schweser questions for L2 as opposed to the CFAI end of chapter questions?

One caveat I will add is that I found a number of mistakes in their level 3 material so i wouldn't use them for level 3 again.

Same. I used their practice exams for L3 and they were riddled with errors. It was pretty frustrating.

I would use these resources for the CFA exams:

L1: Schweser Notes & Qbank L2: Schweser Notes, Schweser Exams, CFAI EOC Questions, & Old CFAI Mocks (Google search to find) L3: Schweser Notes, CFAI EOC Questions, Old CFAI Mocks, & Old CFAI AM Essays

I didn't think the qbank for L2 was helpful at all. Very few of the questions were actually offered in the vignette style that is used on the exam.

Well I actually dropped a couple of marks on the exam due to their syllabus errors. Very annoying!

Well, most people that bought the most recent edition of the books are probably intent on keeping them until the exams. However, you could do like I did and explore your options on google to get a virtually unbeatable deal on the books. For full disclosure though, I do have an eyepatch and a parrot on my shoulder. Arrgh.

Not admitting to having done shady stuff or encouraging it, but just for reference vividbook.org has all the latest schweser books as pdf for 100 bucks, and then you can print those hundreds of pages at work when no one's looking. Though my unsolicited advice would be to put in the time and learn using the CFA institute materials and avoid schweser. If you insist on using schweser and want physical books make sure to check if you haven't already whether your employer will pay for it, my previous employer was willing to sponsor everything, you just needed to have the cojones to get an MD to approve it.
