Family Office - Confused / How should I Benchmark this Opportunity

I’ve been working at this family office for a tech founder ($1bn+) for almost a year now. The team is very lean but I’m not sure what the upside of working here longer term (not sure of salary progression / job scope changes).

The family office is cool as you can analyze both public and private tech companies but at the same time the lack of structure makes it frustrating sometimes but you get to work with the founder directly.

I’m still fairly young (late 20s) and want to make sure I have upward mobility. Hours here is better than banking (90+). How feasible is it for me to pivot to PE/VC opportunities?

Am I just burnt out or does it make sense to stay here for a while?

howd you land the role? in a similar spot at a different LP type and also lost

Comparable to IB when I moved over, but I don’t know if this role can match my salary progression. I have fairly good relationship with founder but given the nature things can always change

  1. How much capital are you deploying 2. Are you developing as an investor from learning from your seniors 3. Are you trusted, are your opinions respected and impacting outcomes. If you feel good about these then you are in a good spot. If you are in a good spot and happy with comp, then stay. If you are not in a good spot or not happy with comp, then leave. That’s how I’d think about it as a VP level PE investor.

Thanks, few hundred millions in terms of cash / stock; another few hundred in funds / other asset classes. Haven’t been in the market for jobs in a while and not sure if I’ll be given the proper looks since I left to family office if I want to get to institutional investing but I guess I’ll know once I start looking

Because of how lean the team is I don’t think there’s much to learn from anyone apart from trying to “figure it yourself”, which is part exciting and part confusing at times.

Can someone please explain this bizarre phenomenon to me? Where someone uses an anonymous username to make an anonymous post on an anonymous forum, asking for advice and giving details on his job.

But absolutely refuses to share their compensation range.

Wtf is with people loathe to share their compensation range most helpful part of their question? So f*cking odd.
