Farmland Investing
Does anyone here know much about the farmland investing space? Seems like investor interest has kept on growing since the 80s both on the institutional side and for private investors.
What kind of background would you need to become a PM at a large farmland fund? I know it is a very niche space but any idea on potential comp and hours? I can imagine there is a lot of travel.
Hi Trader in S&T - Comm, any of these topics helpful:
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
So Bill Gates is gobbling all that farmland up and no one here is interested in the industry? Sounds like a strong buy.
Seems like something to do if you have a few $B as an investor. It's also something to do as an investor (job) if you can fool someone into paying you a management fee for buying farmland, lmao.
Check out the team at Solum Partners. It’s a dedicated farmland strategy that came out of the Harvard endowment.
Interesting group. Was looking at the comp for the team that left Harvard to start Folium before the Solum guys were hired, those numbers are pretty nuts.
Seems like the roots of the industry are in the big life insurers like Hancock, Prudential... A common background is on the debt side for farm lending. Whereas the more recent fund with more of a PE focus tend to have more agribiz backgrounds (Cargill, Cosan...)
any insights you could share on the comp you referenced?
