FINALLY headed to work in FO

After my career started in BO and MO roles for ~3.5 years I finally received the offer for a FO role. (granted I move like 20 feet away given the size of my company). I will be supporting the PMs/Analysts in various capacities, whether helping on research, or re-balancing and other account trading activity. It has not yet sunk in so typing this out kind of helps that. I have a few weeks before I begin, but once I do I will try and post my story so that maybe it will help someone on the same path reach their goals.

No, I am in middle office now, in compliance. In my new role I will be monitoring MF holdings, helping with research, being involved with asset selection meetings, doing stuff they would have to do if I am not there, other special projects as they come in etc . It is a pretty lateral transition, technically a lower pay range, but salary is unchanged. but definitely not MO. Kind of why I was waiting to go into more detail until I started and could better explain my day to day tasks.

Yeah I think it is similar to what you are getting at. I don't think initially I will have my own clients, but helping support the PMs clients by fulfilling transactions, ie.(raising cash for distributions, fulfilling various re balances after client reviews), and whatever other stuff comes up. Basically whatever the PM would have to do if I was not there to assist them, stuff that OPs and the account administrators cannot do. As far as quarterly/monthly reporting I am sure there will be some of that, as well as ad-hoc reporting helping the department make decisions on business and Asset Management functions. It is hard to silo it into purely PM over pure analyst research, since our PMs have kind of dual roles in that regard. This is since we are pretty small in size. I am looking forward to opportunity, definitely more in line with my long term goals, and given the multiple hats they wear, my ability to develop and figure out what I am best at, and help everyone out by doing that.

Not sure why we can't just congratulate this guy on his new role. This wasn't a bragging thread, just someone excited for their promotion within the firm.

Have you run anything ever?

Oooooh. Take that burn @The Real Gordon Gekko"

Fortes fortuna adiuvat.

Congratulations. Don't really understand some of negativity or nit-picking in this thread. As someone that moved from BO/MO to FO I know the feeling when you achieve a move that you begin to think is impossible. Whatever the finer details of your role is, by having regular interaction with a PM and getting an understanding of the day to day portfolio management process, you'll be making the right steps to progress in FO.

Hey CubsFanatic8228,

After reading your post I wanted to congratulate you and was hoping if you kindly provide some insight to your new role as well as an update as to how you have been progressing since your new role as an Investment Associate.

You sound like you had to put in a big shift and jump over some hoops for this stuff. Can't wait to read that story.

Please don't disappoint :)
