Going from IB --> AM

For those who are currently in IB, but want to pursue a career in AM, how did you explain your reasoning behind why you wanted to leave banking, as well as what attracted you to AM?

I'm trying to better understand what a career at AM would look like (ex. at a fund like Dodge & Cox, Parnassus etc), so would greatly appreciate thoughts about the pros/cons of AM.
