Assuming you have the BS in Economics already, why don't you go get an MSF? I'm sure at that point what really matters is your quantitative ability either way. I can't imagine a hedge fund not giving you a shot because you have a degree in finance vs economics. Pedigree of the school might matter though.

Thanks for the answer. The finance program is at Georgia State University, and the economics at California State, Fullerton. The Georgia program is rated higher, but I think the California university is more respected.
