GSAM Reputation/Culture/Pay/Exit Opps
What is the reputation of Goldman Sachs CIMD, specifically GSAM? How is the culture, pay, opportunities to exit, internal mobility? How would you compare this career path to IB? Would Upper MM IB or lower tier BB IB be a better option compared to GSAM?
Same company (so culture is likely similar) but it's a completely different industry. Different skills, different type of clients. Not about doing deals. It's about managing money in one form or another.
You're gonna need to narrow this down, GSAM is huge and there is a ton of variation within the group when it comes to culture/pay/exit ops
Which groups have the best rep? The best pay? Best exit opps?
I wouldn't make your decision solely based on those factors, but I'd say generally speaking the investment teams within AIMS (private equity, fundamental equity/hedge funds, and real estate) tend to have fairly strong exit opps.
Thanks for the advice. Was just curious bc I don’t know much ab AM. Is GSAM considered buy side? If so, why exit?
Yes it’s buy side, and a lot of people choose to stay. I think in the long run, the economics ie carry and profit sharing aren’t as attractive in an AM group within a bank as in a standalone AM, hedge fund, or PE fund.
does anyone have more information on compensation at a place like GSAM at the analyst and associate levels?
