How long would you say it takes to build domain expertise in certain spaces?
Been working on consumers sector for several years now (retail / CPG / distribution / entertainment / cons services / consumer internet). I can definitely tell I've built up meaningful expertise as my knowledge has compounded.
However, now I'm faced with the challenge that I want to build expertise in a few unrelated spaces (fintech / indu after-market parts servicing / etc.) --> issue is that I don't cover these spaces so hard to really compound knowledge / know the nitty gritty.
How long do you feel it takes to ramp on certain industries / sectors before you can call yourself an industry expert? Doesn't mean you know everything but just that you know the key what matters items & can at least plan your angles of attack without blind spots.
Any tips on how to accelerate this process if you don't work within those spaces? Right now I'm reading a bunch of industry primers & investment cases from analysts in my firm who work in those spaces
