How many suits do I need for a role in asset management/finance?

Starting a role in asset management soon, how many suits do I need? My preference is to wear quarter zips, but do still want enough suits. From London so do recommend the best brands for suits/shirts/quarter zips.

Thanks.

Really it's your preference. Most of the time AMs have Business Development arm that's client facing generally to attract more capital and manage relationships. But you'll need to suit up occasionally for some due diligence calls explaining certain stock picks or your theses on how you approach your sector. And there will be time you'll be attending conferences / cocktail parties to meet with clients/potential clients yourselves. To have comfortable selection, I'd say 5 suits varying colors and maybe 1~2 tux for parties maybe? I don't know much about the parties, I don't own a tux, but I've seen some folks dress up either in a three piece suit or tux for parties. But 5 quality suits should give you some comfort in choice and last you for sometime. Aside from that, normally on non-client facing days, people tend to dress down a bit (golf shirt/shirt, jeans/khakis). Probably a bit different in major areas like financial districts in NYC or London - I'd imagine they'd suit up on daily basis but I could be wrong.

Coming up on two years in the industry and I still only own a single suit. Only times I've dusted it off were for a wedding and an in-person meeting with a management team from a country with more old-school business standards. Have at least one good one ready to go at any time, besides that is optional imo. Obviously depends on firm/city/role.
