How to break into buy-side research/PM from sell-side research?

Hey guys -  I am currently a sell-side fixed income research analyst (VP) at a top BB bank. I have been trying to move to the buyside - either for a research or a PM role - over the past few years. However, despite the fact that I have made it to the final rounds in several occasions, I have not had any luck getting a final offer. I am pretty frustrated and quite honestly, a bit confused in terms of why this is happening. Is it really that difficult to break into the buyside from sell side? Should I even consider going back to business school? Any advice that you can give will be greatly appreciated.
