How to break into private banking?

I am a junior looking for a full time private banking position in the NYC area for 2025. I have internship experience with a sophomore consulting internship in financial services. Additionally this upcoming summer I will have wealth management related internship at a large asset management firm. I am concerned about the fact that I am not a finance(management) major and have a low gpa around 3.1/4.0. Would appreciate any tips for networking and applying to roles. Thanks

Hello! I’m starting full-time private banking this coming summer. For context, my two prior internships were in wealth management and commercial banking. I think it’s great you’re trying to get ahead of the game by preparing before most 2025 FT PB applications open. I think the wealth management internship will definitely help show your interest in PB despite not being a finance major. You definitely have time, but I would consider applying in the summer towards the end of your internship (July/August) for the reason being that you want to have relevant experience on your resume and speak on what you’ve accomplished during your internship. As far as networking goes, I only reached out to a PB analyst once I secured an interview, but it never hurts to reach out to alumni from your university to see if they can help in terms of interview/HireVue preparation. As for your GPA, you should definitely work on getting it to at least a 3.3/3.4, since some firms require this. Otherwise, I wouldn’t include it on your resume. Even though I haven’t started yet, I hope this helps. PM if you have any other questions.
