Is it bad to say you do NOT invest at all for AM/IM interview?

I don't currently invest any of my money, have a fake stock portfolio, or have any other relevant experience. Will this look really bad during an Asset Management/investment management summer analyst interview, assuming they ask if I have a portfolio or trade stocks? What should I say?

Martinghoul is right. Simply put, if you don't even dare to invest your own money why should I trust you with client money? Or if you have no money, the interviewer will probably doubt you're interested in the field to begin with.

Opinions will vary here but if you're talking about for an undergraduate internship I wouldn't view it as a big deal. Your grades, extracurricular activities, knowledge of accounting and finance, and genuine interest in the field are much more important.

For a MBA internship, absolutely you need to be able to talk about companies you like and your investment philosophy.

I would never trust an undergrad (intern or recent grad) with making investment decisions...
