Joined a new shop recently with a difficult associate - how do I survive?

My boss is super sharp and direct, nice guy - doesn't waste time and is not a nerd. One associate who I have been mostly staffed with since joining is insufferable.

He forces me into daily multi-hour 1:1s calls which is completely not needed given my background and he continues to explain the same things multiple times even though it's clear I understand them. I have been at the firm less than 6 months...

I can't figure out the reason for this beyond personality clash - would love some advice on the situation as it's likely my fault for not managing up well enough?
